F-105F, Peach 91

This is my last project for 2005. It is the Monogram, 1/48 kit of the F-105G modified to be an F model. The full scale bird made the last F-105 Thunderchief flight for the Air National Guard at Dobbins AFB, GA, on May 25, 1983, and carried quite an array of special markings, but no external ordnance. I used Model Master enamel paints and aftemarket decals. Comments, pro or con are welcome.

Just stunning! A really nice job. Great work on the consoles and IP’s.

I couldn’t agree more with wing_nut. Beautiful rendition.

She’s a beauty alright! Great job on the cockpit detailing. I’m really inspired to finish mine now (I’m modeling the F-105G aircraft; all that’s left to complete the kit is the four-color camo on top surfaces, decaling, a wash, flat coat, then addition of landing gear, ordnance, etc.)

Great Job!!!

Absolutely stunning Thud. The F-105 has always been a sweet aircraft to look at. Love the detail work that you did on the 'pits, and love the signature decals on both sides, adds a special touch to the build! They sure don’t build them that way any more do they?

Thanks for letting us look. [swg]

Yardbird,I thought you said you were old? How the heck did you manage the detail in the cockpit?its bloody beautiful! What you did is why I stay in this hobby.

Excellent build Darwin. Very nice work on the camo & decals.

Regards, Rick

Nice looking Thud! I really have to finish mine, its been 85% complete for way to long! LOL

Great consoles, mate!
I always liked the Thud…I like the cammo as well - good one.
Thanks for posting the pics.

Yardbird, Very nice job on the Thud. I would like to post some pics of my Michigan Air Guard Thunderflash in a camo scheme and a F-84 Thunderstreak in a BareMetal scheme. Am new to the site and understand that many are having problems posting pics of their projects. If you could e-mail me at dsc070744@wowway.com with a detailed explanation on how to best do it i sure would appreciate it.Thanks so much. Dennis, Fraser, Michigan

Great looking Thud! I did this kit several years ago, had a problem with the landing gear being a bit wobbly. Great camo job. Do you use a single or double action AB to paint? How’d you do the panel lines? Thank you for sharing your fine workmanship.

Neil

I have built several of the 1/72 and 1/48 Monogram Thuds and the main gear on all of them was weak, especially the big ones. They were perfectly straight when I glued them in place, but after setting for awhile, they are now bent over. I used a double action Badger 355 air brush with Model Master enamel paint thinned two parts paint to one part thinner. I used a graphite draftsman pencil to highlight the panel lines and pastel chalk brushed lightly on the areas where staining would occur.

Nice lookin’ Thud. They used to have the F-105G that made the last “Wild Weasel” flight parked out in front of Dobbins’ main gate a few years back, along with a GA ANG F-4. I knew I should’ve taken some pictures before they moved them all. I’ve got the kit in the stash with Paragon flaps and slats, and an open gun bay, with some Superscale decals. Hopefully mine looks as good.

great lookin build. I think the last time i built that kit was when i was 14 i think IMOA i think they were a goofy looking plane But thats just me i know my pops didnt like working on them. It is a very nice lookin build did you have to make any of the decals yourself or are they all AM ones?

Darwin, EXCELLENT looking build, sir. I trust you’ll be passing your skills on to Mitchell, in a few years?

Regards,

Mitch

A beautiful looking Thud. How long did it take you to complete it? Fantastic job and the cockpits are excellent.

Darwin, your Thud looks superb! Thats a stunning build, I love all the detail in the cockpits and the markings make it really stand out. Thanks for sharing, Darren.

Thanks for all the replies. I built a 1/72 scale version of Peach 91 along with the 48 size. The cockpit in that one is REALLY tiny.

This both sizes together. Darwin, O.F. [alien]
