F-105B @ depot for I.R.A.N.

I built this Thud about 20 years ago along with the rest of the various Thunderbird A/C as well as the Blue Angel fleet. I was sorting through my “Boneyard” about 6 months ago and stumbled across this poor, dilapidated carcass. I decided to try to resurrect it, so I used DOT 3 brake fluid and a lot of elbow grease to remove the paint and decals which had both turned to crap. Once down to bare plastic, I did a few minor necessary repairs and started the refurbishment. I found a set of kit decals on ebay that the seller said were in fair to poor condition and man was he right. I had an AM set for the tail feathers in my file cabinet, but the rest has to come from the kit sheet. That is turning into a labor of love/hate/frustration to get them on the plane. The paint is Testors rattle can called “Chrome”. It is smooth and very shiny. The picture was taken this evening just after the start of the decaling process.

I love it Darwin, sometimes, I get just as much, or (sometimes) more enjoyment
restoring old build-ups, as I do, starting a new kit.

How long did you have to leave the chrome sit, before you could handle it , without
finger printing it?

Leon.

I let it set for about a week, but I use white cotten gloves anyway once I am ready to start painting a model. The oil and crude on your fingertips leaves minute traces of contaminant on the plane and frequently causes problems.

Looks like the rehab is going well. Keep us posted.

shame the Thud wasn’t cut out for the T’Birds 1season and it was back to the Hun.
Hmmm they went straight to the F-4 then the T-38 a couple years later now to the F-16 won’t be long till we see a Raptor in the T’Birds color scheme.
