Hey all - Wondering if anyone has a better pic than this one showing the gun on an F-104G. Seems to me that the gun in this pic is missing, and if the gun barrel actually protrudes from this opening I would like to add it to my model. In this pic you can see what looks like a rubber seal from which the barrel should protrude.
As the barrels turn, the barrel that fires is in direct line with the opening. It has a safety switch that prevents them from firing out of sequence. Sometimes there is what is called a short shot or cooked off shot, where one barrel will fire out of sequence, which causes damage to the aircraft.
Thanks Berny - I know a bit about how Gat’s work. I was just surprised that the round would have to pass through what appears to be a not-so-clear opening. Looks to me like the round would scrape the rubber seal, but I guess at those high velocities it wouldn’t matter. (?)
