Could F-104As carry drop tanks under there wings? I’m building Italieri’s A in 1/72, and need to know if the wing-tip-tanks could be carried under the wings. The kit has two pylons that look like they would hold them or something. Any idea as to what they are for?

Don’t know if the As ever wore underwing pylons, but the Cs certainly did. (Slap a refueling probe on and you’ve got a C.) If you put tanks on those pylons, note that the fin arrangement was slightly different than what was found on the tip tanks. Three fins as opposed to four, missing the bottom fin.
The A model could not carry tanks under the wings. They used tip tanks only. The C model was the first F-014 that had the beefed up wings and wet pylons which enabled it to carry tanks.
