F-104 kit question

Anyone got the scoop on this old kit:?

I’m after the pylons, fuel tanks, and missles to use on my Hasegawa kit. The kit has raised panel lines? Is the plastic any good? Fit?

Thanks

I believe it has raised lines, all the kits of that vintage that I have from them are raised panel line models

The missiles in that kit are best replaced by some from a Hasegawa weapons set. Or perhaps the new Eduard Brassin ones. The pylons & tanks are general shape at best and will look mismatched compared to the kit you are adding them to unless you spruce them up a bit with some scribing of your own. Fit is gonna be typical of ESCI kits of that vintage, not perfect. I have the kit in my stash, and dont recall about the panel lines off the top of my head. Some ESCI kits of that vintage such as their F-4 Phantoms and others had recessed panel lines, while many others had raised. It will look like and F-104 when built, but the rest is up to you.

Thanks Stik. I figured I’d have to try and re-scribe them. Might be difficult on a compound curved surface for the fuel tanks. Not sure if it would be worth the 23 bucks for just pylons and weapons…

Nathan, Nothing of any worth there. I buuilt that one a few years ago for my nephew and while there are a couple of sidewinders and a practice bomb dispenser the detail is extremely poor. Panel lines are definitely raised.

I don’t think there are any pylons included. I threw whatever was left over into my 1/48 spares box. I can look and tell you.

I am actually preparing to build this kit for a GB. It is raised panel lines. I am going to have a project getting it re-scribed and presentable. But then again that’s what makes it fun !

That is the F-104G/S release. It has wing pylons for the Sparrows/Aspides of the S version
