Evil Bay

I just watched a Hasegawa 1/48 F-16B go for around $60.00 on E-Bay. With a little research the unlucky buyer could have found out about the re-release of the B model going for $17.00. God knows when it will be released but that’s quite a savings! Dean

Ain’t EvilBay wonderful (if you are a seller, that is!)! Some of the prices I see on there are mind boggling - maybe I should start weeding out a few vintage kits will the linacy continues?

To a casual builder that may be a ridiculous price. But to a hardcore builder, a collector or a general Viper Nut it’s nothing, especially for that particular boxing of the kit. (Kit V5, released around 1989) It was the first release of a 2-Seater F-16 by Hasegawa and looks to be in great shape.

The auction also included a Black Box cockpit for the F-16B, which I think is out of production.

To each their own as to what’s a good price or a bad price. But the final total, with shipping, of $65.10 ain’t a bad deal…

Fade to Black…

Anybody have a link to the auction ? I know in car models alot of time when the re-release them they dont include all the parts. Also some like collectors like the boxes.

Can’t get onto ebay to grab the link for you… grrrrr…

Do a search for completed listings with the keywords ‘Hasegawa 1/48 F-16B’. There are two kits that went for just under $60, but only one of them ended yesterday.

Fade to Black…

Some of my kits on Ebay have reached rather staggering sums.
The resin Garage Kit figures get QUITE pricey as they are usually cast once and that is it.

I saw a Monogram AH1S Cobra being sold on Ebay the other day for USD $15.00 Buy it Now option, with 12.00 Shipping and handling charges within the US.
USD $27.00 is way too much for something I have picked up without the box for under $5.

just a thought here but from watching evil bay for a few yrs now

and the prices on (SOME) things

it is only my opinion and without knowing the people involved personally

i can not be sighted as wrong or right

and i base my thought also on almost 50 yrs of life exp too at other auctions etc

i think collectors are the group that drive the prices way up(not the builders or users) and i think this true not just on evil bay

[#offtopic]only slightly

I have to concede your point, BlackWolf, as I have also paid somewhat high prices for certain OOP kits. I am just amazed at the prices that are paid for current production items at times (e.g. Black Box EA-6B cockpit set for $51.00; available from Squadron and Great Models for less than $35). Goo deals can be had as well, like the 1974 Monogram 1:48 P-61 Black Widow for $1.99 (shipping cost was 3x the selling price!).

I saw a Battleaxe 1/48 scale F-84G going for over $300 at one time. I have the same kit, unbuilt, that I paid about $70, when it was first released about 14 years ago. It has lots of resin parts and from what I have heard has a very bad fit problem. I never went back on the site to see what the final bid was.

Maybe I should sell my kit at that price.

What’s that old saying, “A fool and his money are soon parted.” Ha, ha, then to each his own! If someone whats something that bad and is willing to pay for it then it’s a good deal to them. I can’t help it if my pennies have finger nail scratches on them! Horray for Hobby Lobby and their 50% off Sales!

Clear Left!

I’ll second that motion!
