Ever think I'd build a . . .

Phantom?

Here are some pics of an aircraft I’m building for a customer.

The kit is Hasegawa’s RF-4B, which is being converted to a “C.” It is out of the box, with the exception of the True Details resin seats.
The instrument panels have nicely molded detail on the dials, and some careful drubrushing with with paint brings them to life.
The intakes are just dryfit for the pics (it looks VERY strange without them). Their interiors, along with the wheel wells, gear, and gear covers, will be painted white before I apply the camouflage colors.

Although difficult to believe, less than fifty years separate these two aircraft (Eduard Fokker D. VII on the left). A lot of progress can take place in less than a lifetime !

Pix, that is some superb work on the cockpit. Your buyer will be very pleased.

Really nice work in the cockpit, great painting.

You are right it is hard to believe that the Fokker and the Phantom are only fifty years apart.

Is this a sign of the coming apocalypse??? Pix building a gray aircraft??? [:O]

Seriously, Bill, it looks phantastic [;)], as always! Thanks for sharing, and I’ll be looking for the next update on her!

Brian [C):-)]

The comparison kind of makes me think of computers. Look how far they have come in so short of time. Good start on the Phantom Pix.

Bill, nice work on the recce Phantom. I am particularly interested in the reconnaissance jets.

Hmmmm…I read a quote from Bill about “not liking grey jets”…which begs the question, what color scheme will you be using, Mr. Pix? SEA camo, by chance?

Geesh, Bill, I bet those are no more than the sixth, maybe eigth set of bang seats you’ve ever done, and they look great! Can’t wait to see the camo!

Mitch

Thanks Sean, David, Brian, tigerman, yardbird, and Mitch !

Brian and Mitch - nope, this won’t be a “gray” jet. Here’s a shot of the one I’m building:

Mitch - I’ve only done one other ejection seat, in the Scooter I built for another customer. Having good reference pics were important for me, since I’m unfamiliar with them.

Thanks again !

hey pix, good looking build so far. what scale are you doing and were did you get the photo equipment from?

Thanks GA.modelmaker !

The kit is 1/48, and the camera equipment and associated clear panels and cutouts come with the kit (RF-4B, Hasegawa #07231).

Thanks again !

Pix, can I send all my cockpits to you when they need painted?

First WWI biplanes, now Vietnam era Jets… What did you do with the real Pix??? Looking good, love the comparison with the Fokker. Tried to look for pics on your site - but none posted yet.

Thanks Wayne and waikong !

Wayne - I’ve been thinking of adding partial building services for things like cockpits, camouflage painting, and metal finishes. It might be worth it to some.

waikong - it’s fun to build things outside my interest. I’ve become hooked on Eduard’s 1/48 WW I kits (I’ve got three more new ones), but I’m not much interested in aircraft newer than the F-86 (I have one in the pile). I don’t usually post the commission builds on my website. I have three Corsairs (2 HobbyCraft, 1 Hasegawa) and a P-51D (Hasegawa) that I’m building for a customer in the markings of the 1969 “Soccer War.” I may post pics of them, but I probably won’t add them to the website.

Thanks again !

Thats too bad about not putting your commissioned builds on your site. Is it some agreement between you and the clients, or just a personal preference?

Phantastic job on the Phantom so far Pix.

Pix, awesome work as always!

Thanks falcon and John !

waikong - when I get enough commission projects finished to do a whole page, I’ll seek permission from the customers to use the images. The business is new, so I don’t want it to appear as though only a couple people were interested. After all, I built them but they’re not mine.

I hope to have the camo painted today. I’ll post pics then. Thanks again!
