Hello everybody!!
I want to transform an old Revell 1/72 Eurofighter prototype into a futur ground attack capabilities Typhoon.
But I havn’t a lot of information about the weapons and the disposition and the form of the weapon’s station, moreover the central one.
I want to sratch-build them but without pictures it’s not so easy (I only found that: http://www.eurofighter.starstreak.net/Euro...er/weapons.html )
If somebody have any information about it or if someone had yet made this kit, I’ll thank him for the help.
Hello, Pollux! I seem to remember quite a while ago someone was building a Eurofighter and asked for pics… he got several from someone and a lots of information but I can’t remember the guy’s name, he was an English fellow though. Let me keep looking and I’ll see if I can find it. I think the website involved BAE or something similar and had lots of photos of what that central weapons station can carry etc. I’ll keep checking…
Jonathan
Hello Pollux…
The Eurofighter will have a variety of different load-outs depending on the mission (SEAD versus interdiction versus close air supprot, etc.) Generally speaking, the Eurofighter can carry just about any air-air or air-ground weapon! A “typical” swing-role load out would be:
3 AMRAAM or meteor AAM on the “corner” fuselage stations (with a TIALD targeting pod on the 1st corner fuselage station), three 2000L fuel tanks (one on the center fuselage station, and the others on the middle wing stations. 2 LGBs (1000 lb class) on the “shoulder” pylons, ALARM or AGM-88 HARMs on the 2nd from the last wing pylons and sidewinders or ASRAAMs on the furthest wing pylons. The Eurofighter can also carry the new “Brimstone” missiles on triple ejector launchers(typically on any of the first three wing pylons). The jet also can carry two Storm Shadow cruise missiles (like the Tornado GR.4s did in Operation Telic) on the “shoulder” pylons.
As far as photos go, I can’t direct you to any web sight in particular. Maybe just do “Google” searches for the various weapon photos. I have several books from AIRtime publishing (International Air Power Review) and Key Publishing (AIR FORCES Monthly) with great references. I know that FLIGHTPATH (an after-market accessories company from the UK) makes a 1:72 TIALD, ALARM and RAF LGBs . I got their “Tornado update kit” with these items through www.greatmodels.com. Hope this helps. Frank
For Jon: I’ll search this topic on the site. Do you remember one of the words in the topic titlle?
For Frank: very interresting, thank you for the link. I’m not very good in scratchbuilt and if a weapon’s kit exist, it helps me very well.
Are you sure the Storm Shadow missiles are on the “shoulder” pylons? I read that one time but it looks curious: this missile is very big!!
For my Eurofighter, I think I’ll arm it with:
3 AMRAAM, 1 TIALD or LITENING II pod , 3 fuel tanks, 2 ASRAAM (sratch-built), 2 HARM, 6 Brimstone missiles on the shoulder pylons.
But maybe I’ll replace 2 fuel tanks with 2 BL 755 Cluster Bomb on one pylon and a LGB on the other.
Hi Polluxdeltaseven
If you are doing a RAF jet,we dont use the HARM missile,we use BAe ALARM & the Hunting Hunting BL755 is being withdrawn from service.
Atryical RAF warshot loadout is ,from starboard wingtip in;
1 x ASRAMM,1 X ALARM, 1 X 1500L (330 gal) DROP,1 X LGB (1000LB)2 X Meteor (on recessed under fusalage)1 x centerline 1500L drop.The port side is the same except the front recessed missile palett holds a TIALD pod with 1 x Meteor at the rear.
Took this from a pre-production publicity shot,
hope it helps,
Merv
hi pollux- I came up short but I remember the web site had BAE in it. I’ve scoured Google but I have come up empty. Good luck- that is one very sexy fighter. Are there any 1/48 kits available?
I’d stay away from any “cluster” munition on fourt generation aircraft. They fall under the landmine ban treaty and I believe that all nations involved with the Eurofighter have signed it.
The afore mentioned BL755 is out as are the JP223 and the German MW-1.
Spike: I’ve heard that the RAF retired the Sea Eagle anti ship missile, is that true? Shame if it was, I think the Eurofighter would look great in the anti shipping role. Maybe Harpoons or Martels would look alright on one…
as far as i,m aware, they hav’nt.The Tornado’s of RAF Lossiemouth carry them(12 sqn are anti shipping)
The Harpoon is carried by the Nimrod but i think it’s too long & fat with the fins on to fit under the Tornado & it cant go on the wing pylons.
Have you seen the tornado f3 wild weasel fit yet?
Looks cool(Gr4 shoulder pylons with 3 x ALARMS,4x WINDERS on the inner wing pylon,BOZ pod on port wing tip & SKYSHADOW on starboard pylon)
I forgot to notice that I want to do a “what if” Eurofighter.
In my vision, the Eurofighter I’ll do will be a British Typhoon in 2015.
In this “what if” futur, my aircaft had served for 6 years on Middle Orient theatre and, with the long long time of the war, it carries CAS weapons.
I think it could be cool to put on my Typhoon locals weapons and when I look the Saoudian sand-colored BL-755 Cluster Bomb, I found it cool.
But if you say those bombs will not be used in the futur, I believe you and I’ll will put on my Typhoon other weapons, like AGM-154.
Like the Harm (I know UK use ALARM and studies a futur anti-radar missile), I think in a long war, all the OTAN nations will modified their best fighters to make them able to use ALL the NATO weapons.
EDIT: sorry, NATO in english, not OTAN [:p]
Thank you all for your help, it make my concept more realistic! [;)]
ok boys!
I start tonight (it’s 01:00 here) the scatchbuild work on the Brimstone launcher. I work on 1/72 and for the moment it’s a little hard (the launcher is 20mm long and 4mm high!!) but I think I’ll do it in 1 or 2 days.
I still don’t know the final weapon’s config, so it is possible that I build a second launcher (if I dont use it for the Typhoon, I will put it on my Harrier).
Sorry I have no camera but in few weeks I think it will be possible to show you pictures of my work.
Thank you all for the informations!! (if you have other one, I’m still here [;)] )
I’m yet thinking about my Eurofighter scheme.
Does anyone know if the Marineflieger will have the Eurofighter or if the 180 German Eurofighter will only be for Lufftwaffe?
Not sure, but as the Typhoon is eventually goint to replace the Tornado,i woud’nt be supprised.( anti ship or even a ecr jet maybe?but here’s a idea!
How about a US Marines Aggressor squadron jet?
Merv
On a french forum, somebody told me the Marineflieger want to keep its Tornado in service for about 15 years or more.
After that, it will be possible that deutch navy buy Eurofighter or that Lufftwaffe’s ones will have anti-ship config!! And that’s an idea to model !!
Or if the deutch have not enough money, it could be possible that the Marineflieger will have no fighter-jet anymore [:(]
US Marines Agressor with Typhoon you mean?? it could be cool, like the israeli Kfir named F-20… Interresting to, but I thing I prefer a war config for my model.
For the moment, I’m still on my Brimstone launcher (not so easy, I found pictures of 2 differents model, an I have no idea about the one which will be carried by Typhoon).
I finish scratch-build two heavy-weapons pylons and I will start build new Sidewinders pylons too.
I was going to do a hypothetical Eurofighter a few years ago.
I had come up with a splinter type camoflage similar to what some Ukrainian SU-27 Flankers currently wear except I did it in two light greys and a light green over a lighter grey underside and was planning to put Slovak air force markings on it.
Unfortunately, the Slovak decals I had didn’t work well and the model now sits unmarked in a box back in Canada.
I had intended to give it something of an ECM role as the model I had was a two seater.
I have already seen a Eurofighter with splinter scheme on www.airaftresourcecenter.com. I did not enjoy the model but the splinter was very fine and I love this kind of camo. (i saw one day a Rafale with swiss splinter camo: beautiful!!)
But I’m not able to do a splinter scheme: I don’t know how to do and I have no aerographe (don’t know the english word) for painting.
For my Eurofighter, I’ll do a desert scheme I think. perhaps will I try a splinter on my Marineflieger Rafale… Don’t know at this tme.
