ertl F7F tigercat, monogram p-61 stuff...

is the ertl grumman F7F tigercat kit still in production? i’d love to get my hands on one… also would appreciate tips on available aftermarket goodies for same; particularly a night-fighter conversion kit! and while i’m at it, could also use suggestions on available “goodies” for the (venerable) old monogram “black widow” kit. thanks, all!

The old AMT/Ertl kit is no longer around. You can still find them on ebay for a decent price.

Lonestar models offers a P-61 cockpit here’s a link.

There are a bunch of goodies for the Black Widow. Engines and things has some nice engines, as well as a few other companies, and Eduard makes two really nice photo-etched frets (interior and exterior) for it. There’s some True Details resin wheels floating around, too. Sadly, there’s no vacuformed canopy… the kit pieces are a little too small.

I have the ERTL Kit. I’d send it to you, but I’m already too involved in it to give it up[:)] It’s a good kit, and I think it has night fighter parts (the -2/2N kit). As for aftermarket stuff, the kit detail is pretty good as is. I just added some wiring and a scratchbuilt throttle.

You might watch for the AMT kit, I have both the F7F-2 and -3N kits and they are decent kits, with a fair amount of p.e. stuff available. These are usually easily available on EvilBay for good prices ( I have less than $25 tied up in bot my kits).

I just happened to stiumble across this the other day http://www.greathistorygifts.com/showitemlist.asp?category=220

You’ll note the AMT/ERTL 1/48 scale F-7F can be had here for $11.98 , plus shipping.

There’s also a P-70 Nightfighter on the same page.

Wow. That is an outrageous price on both of those (BOTH are $11.98 each). AND they have a 15% off coupon. I ordered both of them. I guess I’ll see if they are actually in stock… :slight_smile:

Bearzy;

AMT made 3 versions of the Tigercat the first out was the F7F-3, then the F7F-2/2N and last was the F7F-3N the only differances was the fuselage parts, now that AMT no longer makes aircraft kits after they where bought out by Road Champions that only makes toy cars, now AMT only produces car kits, as for the Monogram (Revellogram) P-61 is there are a number of AM stuff, Eduard has the PE kits but that’s all I’ve researched so far

Well, the site above is out of the Tigercat, but they have the P-70s in stock!

I just got an e-mail from them telling me I won’t be getting my Tigercat, but there is one P-70 left. :frowning:

There do seem to have two different versions of the Monogram P-61 remaining.

Italeri bought the old AMT aircraft molds, so chances are we will see all those kits again.
