First, thank you for all the comments and feedback we’ve received regarding the site. It’s been wonderful and very helpful. Please keep it coming. It’s very much appreciated!
From the editorial staff putting together all the content for the site, the art department, the web development team and many others, it involved a lot of hard work and dedication to make this happen. Unfortuneately, as hard as we’ve worked and as many times we’ve looked through the site, there are always bound to be errors that crop up on a new site like this. We ask that you please be patient with us while we work out all the issues and get everything working smoothly.
Also, we would ask that if you encounter any errors or something just doesn’t appear to be working quite right, then please do not hesitate to contact us. From past experiences we know that people sometimes assume that we know about errors on the site and will not bother to contact us. The problem is that unless someone informs us about an error, we can’t fix it. So please either send us an email directly, fill out the contact form or post inside the forum and let us know.
Hello David:
First, this is a great site; especially the Forum. I have noticed a problem that shows up when I summit a remark to a forum listing. It might be my Windows 95 software, but here’s what happens. After my replies are posted and I click the “Back” button to return to the main subject page, I can’t get past the reply page. Each single click loops to the “New Reply Posted” page for about 3 seconds, then back to the reply page. To get back to the subject page, I have to either click the proper file line just above the “Post New Reply” box or right click the “Back” button and choose the page I want from the drop down menu. I hope my description is not too confusing.
Your description wasn’t confusing at all. From what you’re describing, after you post a message you would like to return to the Subject page - the forum you had just posted in.
By design, when you post a reply to a topic, the forum returns you to the topic you replied to. If you attempt to use your “Back” button it will take you back to the previous page which is actually a redirect to the page you were just at - which is creating that loop you’re describing. A “redirect” is a sort of like a command to your browser to go to a specific page.
I know this probably isn’t the answer you’re looking for, but the two things you are doing to work around the “redirect” are among the few options you currently have.
The other alternative I can suggest is that when you’re at a forum - looking at a list of topics (or messages), right click on the topic you want to read and open it in a new window. Read it, respond if you want to and when you’re done, close that window and go back to the original window and go on to the next topic. That way you don’t lose your place either.
Thanx for the explanantion, David. The situation mkes sense now that you’ve explained your design. I was mainly wondering if my computer was " hiccuping " on me. I’ll simply click the file level I want that is diagramed at the top of the reply pages. Thank you, again, for your speedy response.
When I try to go to other places on the site that require me to log in, I do and then it just takes me back to the forums page instead of to the area I was trying to go to.
I get the same error as marine1. I’d like to peruse the Gallery, but every time I click to go there, I get the Forums page, too. I just tried to get the OnlineEXTRA page and ended up on the Forums page.
