Ernst Barkmann

what was his last panther’s model and number ? also by any chance does anyone know of if there are colour photo’s of his tanks

what happend to the last post?

This is as close as you’re going to get;

This is a early Ausf G, it’s tactical number is 401, the same as his first Ausf D.

I saw an ad for a painting by David Pentland entitled ‘Barkmann’s Corner’, depicting “His day -long battle”. He’s about to be attacked by aircraft - they look like P-47s - and presumably this was about to be his last action.
The turret number on his Panther is a black 424 outlined in white. This, being a painting and not a photograph, may not be accurate, however.
Hope this is of some help.

Barkmans corner hapend in Normandy, he was in a Panther Ausf A late, where he held off an attack by US armour, (the P47 isnt all its cracked up to be)
after the attack Barkmann and his crew limped of in there damaged Panther to fight the next day
a great book to read with Barkman in is "Armor Battles of the Waffen SS 1943-45 - Will Fey

Barkmann later went on after Normady to the Eastern front then to the Ardennes and then back to the Eastern front, he survived the war and is living in Europe

Amazing story! I’d never heard of Barkmann until I saw the ad for the painting. I always wondered what happened to him after that day in Normandy. Thanks for the info, Caveman. By the way, was he charged for war crimes for being a member of the SS?

The artwork I posted is also a David Pentland painting. It is as accurate as anybody else’s interpretation is going to be. Here is one of many biographies about Barkmann posted on the Disinformation Net; http://www.geocities.com/alkantolga/panzerace/ernst.htm

There is some controversy over his vehicle numbers. The site I just posted lists his first Panther as 221, not 401.[%-)] It also states that he served as “Major” of his hometown after the war…(I’m pretty sure that would be “Mayor”, not Major). There is also some dispute over whether his last Panther was #401.

The details of his exploits is another quagmire that I don’t care to wade into, despite the large amount of information I have that has been written about him…[xx(]
