I just finished my AMT Enterprise Bridge model. I was not satisfied with the supplied figures, so I used AI to create 2D images and then another AI to make them into STL files to 3D print. They are not perfect but, I think they are better than what the kit had. I also found free STL files for the Burke chairs and the Captains chair. Took a bit to size them correctly. Additionally, I used Solidworks to create my own scanner, targeting scanner, Spocks computer and the turbolift doors.
Wicked cool, and working with solid edge no less.
Not sure if I want to invest in a three D printer yet after just getting good at making molds and casting parts.
Well done! After hearing terrible reviews of the latest Star Trek offerings and deep nostalgia for the thoughtfulness of “Old Trek” by said reviewers, I’ve boldly gone where many men (and women) have gone before and dived in from the Original Series…
While I’m only a few episodes into the first season, I can tell you’ve captured the charm and aesthetic of the original series Enterprise bridge beautifully!
Great work improving on the old kit with some new tech that would’ve been considered works of science fiction in 1966
It took me a while to finally get the 3D printer but, it has been fun and trying at times. It is great to have the ability to create what the mainstream companies cannot. I am printing the USS Stargazer from The Next Generation currently.
Thanks. Todays tech is amazing. After searching on line for figures, and being disapointed, I found ChatGPT and Makerworld. I am working on figures to go with my Lost In Space chariot and space pod now.
I want to get a pair of the 5 bladed props for an upgraded OV-10D in 1/48, I talked to a couple guys selling printed parts and couldn’t get any made…I even have the file for printing them, just need to mirror one for the other side…BUT…no bueno
Well done results. Many years ago I attempted this kit and didn’t get very far at all before pulling the plug. It’s really nice to see one finished, especially to the level you managed.
Fantastic. I have coveted this kit since I was a kid during TOS. I passed it over at my local hobby shop in the estate sale section. That was a mistake on my part.
amazing build! here’s some trivia for you…
How many fingers do you have on Scotty’s hand? Research it. I was surprised when I found out the answer.
Scotty never showed both hands…only ever the same one!
correct, because the other hand is missing fingers and he was very self-conscious about it.
With AI involved, you never know. I had some files come back with a big mitten for and hand or with 6 fingers.
I read somewhere that James Doohan in fact lost fingers in combat during WW2.
From his Wiki article:
He first saw combat on D-Day, landing in the second wave in a reconnaissance party at Juno Beach. The 13th Field Regiment was interspersed with the Regina Rifle Regiment landing at Nan Sector of Juno Beach. After shooting two sn!pers, Doohan led his men to higher ground through a field of anti-tank mines, where they took defensive positions for the night. Crossing between command posts at 23:30 that night, Doohan was hit by six rounds fired from a Bren gun by a nervous Canadian sentry:[2] four in his leg, one in the chest, and one through his right middle finger. The bullet to his chest was stopped by a silver cigarette case given to him by his brother.[7] His right middle finger had to be amputated, something he would conceal on-screen during most of his career as an actor, sometimes with a flesh-colored glove with a faux finger.[9]
@craig what a fun model! You did a great job bringing the feel of the bridge to life: the bright colors and the crew look just great.
My wife and I recently started a journey into the Final Frontier ourselves… with Jean Luc and crew aboard Enterprise NCC-1701-D. ![]()
Side note, odd that I’m being chastised by the forum for trying to include the wiki article because it uses unmentionable words, like “sn!pers.”
…and without too much trouble either I suspect ![]()
That’s great. I may have to add some.
Chastised? Probably the algorithm flagging violent words…
