Engines and Things

Has anyone ever used Engine and Things replacement engines? Im building a 1/48 B-29 and noticed that Engine and Things has a replacement R-3350.

I have some questions regarding these.

Will the props still be able to turn?

How do the mount to the model?

Will I have to hack up the nacell to get them in the proper position or will they fit neatly and properly with little modification?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I have used a few in 1/72 scale.

It seems that anything goes. Some are great, and some have been a real struggle.

I have had to drill out the engines for the prop shafts. As far as fitting under the cowl, it has depended on the kit. Some fit well, some required extensive work.

If you are a novice I’d pass unless you are ready to POSSIBLY put up a fight. The good news is they are inexpensive and if they look like a hassle shelve them for a different kit.

Sorry I couldn’t be more specific.

I’ve bought three engines from them, including the R-3350, and on all of them, you’ll have to drill the engines for a propellor shaft. But the detail on them is OUTSTANDING!! The R-3350 has the accessory drive, with the accessories, on the back of the engine. These engine kits look as though you could show them out of the plane in a diorama. The only thing you’ll have to add is the exhaust piping, electrical harness, and maybe a fuel system. They are reasonably priced, though. Most of their 1/48th stuff is around $7 US. They even have some jet engines, if you need them.
