Hi all,
What is the actual color of the AH-1W engine bay? I’ve been told to paint it yellow-green, but I’ve seen pics of the bay painted a dark gray. Is the color like Tamiya’s Nato Black or Dark Gray?
Also, what about the engine itself?
Thanks,
Jesse
Engine bay is yellow zinc chromate, yes a yellow-green color. The engine is multi-colored. Mostly different shades of natural metal with green, black , red, etc for hoses, wires, and electronic boxes.
Here is shot of an actual one. Looks like the bulkheads are dark gray, but I think they are just real dirty. You can see the yellow zinc chromate on the upper and lower access panels.

Hope that helps.
Just a little clarification…
Only the insides of the engine bay doors are painted zinc-chromate. The bulkheads in front of, behind and on the interior side of the engines are bare aluminum. Also, the bottom of the lower doors are painted with a patch of black non-skid. Hope this helps!
Well I will be starting on my 1/35 AH-1W Super Cobra soon… So the info will help me also!

I just sprayed Tamiya yellow-green in the engine bay and intakes like the destructions called for, but then again, I closed up the engine bay without adding the engine in at all. I like the little added color that gives to my overall grey snake.
