Endgame 1946 GB - 1/1/09-12/31/09

This is the official thread for the “Endgame 1946” GB. The group build will run from 1/1/09-12/31/09. (But may be extended if necessary)

This GB is based on the question: What if the war hadn’t ended until 1946? So the builds that are allowed must be of late-WWII or was a prototype/paper-project during the war. i.e.-“paper-panzers” and luft '46 aircraft. This is a great time to bust out an E-100, Meteor, or try some crazy, late-war, paint job.

Anybody is welcome to join. Airplanes, armor, ships; they are all allowed.

Rules

  • Build must be of a late-war or prototype/proposed subject. In other words, it must have been in service during or after the crossing of the Rhine and Oder in Europe and the Invasion of Okinawa in the Pacific.
  • If it is an early-war project, such as the Dicker Max, it must be brought up to date by replacing early-war parts with late-war parts and such.
  • Developements right after the war are allowed like the F-84 Thunderjet and such.
  • Kits must be minimally started or unstarted.
  • AM, PE, and Scratchbuilding are welcome.
  • Any scale.
  • Crossovers are allowed as long as they are not started until January 1.
  • Multiple entries are also allowed and encouraged.
  • Any what-ifs are allowed if approved by me first.
  • The most important one: Have Fun![:)]

Here is a brief list of appropriate armor and aircraft I have compiled. I probably have missed something, so if something is not on the list, feel free to let me know. Also, I am not real familiar with late-war ships/submarines, therefore, if building a ship, let me know and I will do research to find if it is appropriate.

Many planes and protoypes are left out of my list. There are many planes in the lists in the links that will not count.

Remember, it MUST have been in service in 1945 or later. A proposed/prototype plane must have been designed during WWII or just after WWII. A plane designed in 1946 or early 1947 are ok as well.

You can jump in anytime, just as long as it is completed by September 1, 2009. Just leave me a post or message with what you will be building. Feel free to ask any questions or leave comments.

Okay, I’ll play but the possible aircraft I’m thinking of don’t show up on your list. I am considering one of these four, all in 1/48:

Me-262 HG III

Gotha P-60

Ta.183

Kyushu J7W3

If you get enough interested parties I’ll firm up my selection.

All of those would be fine. The whole idea of this GB is to build those paper-projects that were designed during the later part of WWII. They are probably under the experimental or WWII jets if at all. Welcome aboard Swanny, just let me know when you decide what kit you will be building.

I might be game with a DO-335B-2 or the trainer version. (A-12?) {Both Tamiya 1/48}

[#toast], Dave

That would be great Hartmann352. Welcome

WarHammer, I am having trouble tracking down a HVSS/E8 suspension right now… If I can not track one down I have an alternate in mind of a M4A3E2 76mm (upgunned Sherman Jumbo that appeared in spring '45.

stikpusher,

Squadron currently has the AFV Club HVSS set: http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=AC35030 It is the only one I could find.

The armor and aircraft badges are up. Any comments are welcome. Also, if anyone wants a badge that displays an Allied fighter instead of the Go-229 for instance, I can make one that has an Allied fighter on it as well.

I’d like to join this GB. I’ve always had a thing for the late-war Blohm & Voss flying wing designs. I’ve got a line on a SPecial Hobby 1/72 B&V P.212.03. That fits the theme, right?

From Luft46:

http://www.luft46.com/bv/bvp212.html

If that falls through my fall-back will be a Planet Models 1/72 B&V P.208.

Andy

Edit: uh, replace “flying wing” with “tailless design”[:I]

Sure amilder. I will put you down for a Special Hobby 1/72 B&V P.212.03. I always thought those Blohm & Voss tailless designs are cool. Welcome to the GB![:D]

It was a difficult decision but I am going to do the Me-262 HG III as a conversion to the old Monogram Me-262.

Sounds good Swanny. I presume that it is 1/48 scale?

-bump

I have posted alternate aircraft and armor badges as well.

Sorry, yeah - that’ll be in 1/48.

Got it Swanny.

Well I now have the kit in my grubby hands - Special Hobby Blohm & Voss P.212.03 Strahljager

It’s pretty rough, tons of flash, but with a little TLC, I should be able to make something thats not too embarrasing.

Looks cool amilder. Good luck! Can’t wait to see it finished.

Everyone, I just got a greatmodels.com flyer and I saw that Hasegawa is making a jet engined Shinden. That would be awesome to see in this GB if someone is going to get it.

I am in, I have never been involved in a group build but this one will give me a reason to build my ROG He-162 1/32 scale thats collecting dust in my stash.

Sounds good and welcome to your first group build Racedriver. I will put you on the list and have fun! [:)]

Off topic, with a user name like that and the avatar; Do you go to Williams Grove at all?

I did a 1/48 conversion a few years ago.
