I Generaly use Tamiya Acrylics when painting, but was wondering if it is possible to use Enamels for creating washes and weathering over the acrylic paint? I read some information saying yes its ok to do so then no its not. not sure what the go is with the compatability.
If the acrylic paint was sealed with clear coat before using the wash would this create a barrier so the enamels dont attack the paint.
Also, what thinners would you use to thin Enamel paints.
I don’t use acrylics, but I have used mineral spirits to thin an enamel wash when I paint faces for pilot figures. It’s much less “hot” than laquer thinner.
If you do a search on this (FSM) site, I think they had a short tutorial on washes a few months ago by one of the editors.
I use mineral spirits to thin enamel paint,it never has any effect on my acyrlics if fully cured, but usually you need to gloss and matte for decals,so you are in effect sealing, just remeber to use acylic clear like Vallejo
