hi guys, i woke this morning and went to put my paints away into a cuboard, but i noticed that an oily sticky substances was being pushed through the lid. I think cos i left my paints in the living room, as it gets really hot at night, the heat has caused it to squeeze through the lid??? imk not sure, can someone tell me. Should these paints avoid a certain storage temperture to aviod this substance from squeezing through?

First off [#welcome]! Try and keep all your paints (enamels and acrylics), thinners, etc…stored in a cool dry place (around 65-70 degrees F). At warmer temperatures, petroleum products tend to expand (one of our resident scientists can probably explain the process in detail) and this is probably what happened to your enamels. I stored some of my paints in a sealed ammunition can and had the same problem you described (of course I came to find out later that my wife left it in a corner of the office where the sun tends to shine alot while on my second deployment) [xx(]. Needless to say, it was a mess when I opened the can and had to dispose of about 25 bottles of paint.

I store my tins in a plastic container, no lid. I think ill need to store them on a shelv in a cupboard…i knew it had something to do with the heat warming up the chemicals and expanding through the lid due to pressure, or something lol just wasnt sure.
Well i better go make room in a cool cupboard shelv
