Emirates Airbus A380

So here is the first model I’ve built since I was an early teen, so about 20 years ago. It’s far from perfect and I’m a little nervous about posting it after seeing the incredible work here. There’s lots of mistakes, places I wasn’t patient enough and places I just said “Good enough!!” Some of the decals aren’t in the exact right spot, mainly the logos on the nacelles. I painted it with rattle cans and I wasn’t all that happy with the finish. After one of my painting sessions we went to get groceries while the parts dried outside, and a sudden storm brewed up with a major downpour! Oops! Criticism welcome, you guys will never be as hard on me as I am…

I think it’s good from far… but far from good.

But I HAD FUN!!

I am very happy with the tail decals. I got then very symetrical, and I remember having a hard time with larger decals when I was younger. I wish I’d gone and bought decal setting solution, I got some silvering in places.

wow~

Which kit did you use to build this?

You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of Max.It looks like a very nice, clean build on my end.I wasn’t aware that there were kits of the A380 already out.I am assuming it’s 1/144 scale or smaller so who makes it?

It was a Revell kit. 1:144. [:)]

Naw overall I’m happy with it. How hard can I be, it’s the first model I’ve built as an adult. Funny it seemed easier to pull together an ok job than it did when I was young. I learned some things about masking and painting, and about sequencing it all. I painted it all seperate and in hind sight I would have built the most of the whole thing and them painted. There was a piece that made the belly that was an awful fit and required a lot of sanding, but I’d already done my white on the rest of the body.

Like I said I had a lot of fun so it’s all good.

My next one is the 1/32 Tamiya F15 Bunker Buster. No stress!! It only cost 5 times what the A380 cost!

No kidding? I am in the process of building that one as I type.If you get cracking on that kit anytime in the near future,I would like to invite you over to the F-15 Group Build that is going on.You are more than welcome to join. Here is the link to the thread:

And if you have any questions about the kit I will be more than happy to answer them.

Gday Max

If “they” don’t like it, **** 'em. Your money bought the kit, paint glue etc, if you like it, that’s all that matters. The only thing wrong with it is the lack of QANTAS livery[:D]

Yes… Agreed, its your model!..

From one A-380 builder to another… Great job for a first effort!

Also agree about the lack of Qantas livery… Thats what mine is, and well, its still sitting in a box after 8 months waiting to be finished…

But again… great job mate…

Chris

indeed a fine model! great job! and the fact there are a few minor points you think you should/could have done better (which to be honost: i dont see) will only motivate you on doin a great job on youre next model eh?

again, nice job! i like it!

Nice job on the 380 Max [:D],

Even though you’ve made a few mistakes it still looks good

and as long as your’e happy with it thats all that matters…mick [8-]

As one novice modeller to another, I think it looks great! I just got the Antonov AN-124 from Revell…so I’ll also be building my first large plane kit. I’ll post pics soon!

MaxP,

Looks as large and as impressive as the real thing…what more can you ask of a modeling job? [^]

V/r, Bwog

I don’t see anything wrong with it at all. Nice Job.[tup]

Thanks for sharing,

Zip

Cool, I’m in!

This is as far as I got with mine…[:(]

Chris

Looks good to be. Get some decal solution and keep it handy for future projects

I have to agree with you, it was real fun to build mine especially as its the biggest model I have ever built, as far as your imperfections go I can’t see em, I guess it like we all think we’re not as good as we think we are, so a good comment always helps our confidence anyhow here mine, same kit just done in ‘Virgin Atlantic’ colours. (more photos on my web page). Sorry about the size of the photos will get them photoshopped one day.

Scott.

Wow both you guys have cool planes! Where did you guys get the decals for doing different liveries? And scotty are you doing gear up? Or have you not fited that horrid piece that goes in the belly. I hated that piece. I thought it was a bit of a bad design.

Well for me, I made up a Qantas Kangaroo on sticker film, stuck it where I wanted it to sit. Then masked the tail off for the red, and sprayed red over the top… After that was done, I took away the masks, and then the Kangaroo, and wallah, you have a Qantas tail… The Qantas decals I did myself. The other decals are from the Emirates kit…

Chris

Yeah I went for the wheels up approach as I didn’t facny all the wheels assembelies (Spelt?).

Hung from ceiling with stong fishing wire.

The decals were from Hannants as was the 2 part Xtracolour enamel paints specifically for Virgin Aircraft.

Scott.

Not much into the airline theme, but I have to say that it is one beautiful job on the build.
