I’m using Radio Shack’s Zip Zap motors to power my PBY. I tryed to solder them today but they do not work. What type of power supply do you think I should use,could that be the problem? Or did I melt something in the inside during the soldering process? Any help to get these babies hooked up would be appreciated.
A 1.5V battery should spin it at thousands of RPMs even with prop attached. Presumably you attached wires to the silver case and the small tab in the rear. If you have access to a voltmeter, measure the resistance between the 2 wires; it should be several ohms (but not 0 which of course means you have a short). If you have the car, perhaps you could re-attach it to see if it still works?
As for soldering, excessive heat can move or loosen an internal contact. Since the motors are meant to be swappable without soldering, I figure they were not designed to take a lot of heat.
