Why do they put two of the same type in these combo kits? Do you guys really like that?
Wouldn’t it be better if they put something some kind of adversaries in there like a Spad and an Albatross instead of two Spads or two Albatross?
They don’t bother me, they really knock the price down compared to buying them individually. They do seem to offer these mostly for subjects that offer a good variety of markings so you don’t get two nearly identical models when you are done. There does seem to be a market for this as Hasegawa does it too.
I’ve bought a few dual combos, there are not that many kits I need to get two at a time, but the savings makes it easy to find a reason. [:$]
Good point about the decals. I got the Spad kit because I wanted the Eddie Rickenbacker markings (can’t find those markings anywhere else in 1.48). I really had no interest in a second one. I also got the Albatross (single kit) because I’m on an “Adversaries” kick. But the set of decals in the Spad kit also has markings for Frank Luke’s aircraft.
I’m not sure if these guys ever flew together in combat, but now I’m thinking (since I already paid for the second Spad) it might actually be cool for Luke to fly Rickenbacker’s wing when he takes on that Albatross. [:)]

Advesarial boxings would be cool but you probably wouldn’t get the same deal because then two types of kits and markings would have to be boxed together which sort of defeats the “buy in quantity” prinicipal they are leveraging in the first place…besides, many of us are never satisfied with just one of anything we like and want to have the same type in different schemes/markings…
Dragon has begum boxing their 72nd armor in these adversary packs and they look cool…
You guys are right actually, the more I think about it. I have a stack of P-51s, P-47s, Corsairs, FW190s, Zeros, etc all because I wanted to do the same kit in different markings.
I’m not as big into WWI aircraft (yet), but if Eduard did this in more WWII aircraft (already have a bunch of P-39s), I’d probably be more for it.
If i remeber right, i think they do one adversary set. Isn’t there a double boxing with a Pit and a 109 from the BoB.
I don’t mind the idea and have been thinking about getting one of their 190 double boxings.
I have not bought any of them but was really tempted. I do like the idea as I tend to forget what I lean when building. But having two of the same in work at the same time I might be able to apply things I lean to the second kit. I do have a Hasegawa dual 1/72 P-47 kits in the stash.
I got a great deal on the Eduard Dual Hellcat a while back. I believe that there was -3 and -5 version. That isn’t a big difference, but in that respect the two kits weren’t identical. The idea of adversarial combo’s sounds pretty good. I remember when Monogram did that back it the 80’s. Rick.
I’ve bought a couple. They offer good value if the subject interests you enough to want to build two of the same aircraft.

I got the Hellcat Mk.I/II Dual Combo for about $10 more than the F6F-3 Profipack. Hard to complain with that kind of value, and the Fleet Air Arm markings/camo are distinctive and a nice break from the typical USN Hellcats.

Back in the 70’s Monogram did a couple of those “adversary” boxings… P-47/Fw 190, Spifire/Me 109, Widcat/Zeke… Didn’t last long though…
Revell did some 1/72 stuff too, both WW1 and WW2… I remember building some of these:

If you’re a 1/72 guy, these kits are pretty good, especially being subjects that you don’t see many of…
I just got one of those on Ebay a little while ago. It’s the P-47D/Do-335 combo (strange combination actually). I also saw a P-51/FW-190 combo, but didn’t bid on that one.
