Hey guys, I thought I’d post up a couple pix of this beauty thats been keeping me occupied this weekend.
She’s just about done. I could technically call this a work-in-progress but I’ve already got most of it finished so its just onto painting & decals and final weathering. But this is Josef Priller’s E3 what I’ve done so far. I think I’ve got the colors down right. I used Vallejo Model Air for RLM 71 and 02. I tried using Vallejo Model Air for RLM 65 but it came out too blue IMO, so I sprayed Tamiya Light Blue instead. I used Tamiya Black Green for RLM 70 as well.
I’ve been working on the same kit with the same scheme, and I’m about as far along as you are. Looks good so far. Did you freehand the wings? I’m having a little trouble with the RLM 02 overspray. I’ve had to go back and redo it. The first try didn’t cut it.
yeah all the camo is done free hand. I masked off the cowl for the yellow. I had some trouble with overspray on the rlm 70/71 but I went back over it with rlm 02 to tighten it up and it looks alot better now. Its an unusual paint scheme thats why I picked it. I’m just about done with all the tactical markings. The decals are excellent.
The only part I got overspray on was painting the yellow on the cowling. Its very easy since yellow is so bright compared to the other colors. I just need to put on the underside markings, give it a pin wash and install a couple more PE parts and itll be done 
Whoa, this is sharp! Your paint work looks fantastic. How did you like the way the kit built up, any problems?
Not really, it has some fiddly fit issues. There’s no locating slots in the fuselage to mount the cockpit to. That would be a big help and if you install it with the engine covered, you have to file down the front of the engine to make the cowling fit properly and the engine mounts on the sides cannot be used.
There are PE parts used as levers on the instrument faces which are very difficult to install because they have to be folded and are very tiny.
Lastly, the painting reference for all the paint schemes is incorrectly labeled RLM 76 for the undersides & fuselage where it should be RLM 65. I thought it was correct at first but the paragraph explaining the aircrafts history has call outs for 65 being the proper color, also it should be as such because of the time period.
But other than that it went together relatively quickly and the decals are excellent. They snuggled into all the panel lines and even the rivets without using any setting solution. I gave them a light coat of it just to help them out but I’m pleased with it so far.
Looks great, the overspray of the RLM 02 does look better. That’s what I’m working on fixing now on mine. I went with this scheme because it was unusual, also.
Never can go wrong with a 109, looks great.
Thanks man. I know, they were in service so long and made so many theres so much of a variety. This one was piloted by Josef Priller. I’ve never seen the splotchy camo on the wings which is why I picked it.
I’ve got the Eduard E-7 Trop and the Trumpeter G-6 in my stash. I’m probably gonna get the CyberHobby 1/32 E-4 and the new Revell of Germany G-6 as well.
I have the CH E-4 in the works currently. Just got some base paint on the pit. It has been a well fitting kit with lots of detail so far. There are some pretty glaring but easy corrections that have to be made on some of the earlier release ones (I think CH ammended the molds at some point) but it looks to be a very sharp kit.
I’ve seen it come on sale for pretty cheap but I had to restrain myself because i have a stack of 8 kits in the box still lol. But I’ve read nothing but good reviews on it. Dragon/CH is very good about correcting inaccuracies on their kits even if they are miniscule. Plus it comes with 10 markings so its quite a good deal.
If you want a really good inexpensive Bf-109. The Airfix kit is very nice. The plastic is kinda thick on the wings and fuselage but the fit is outstanding and all the control surfaces are positionable even the elevators.

I wish eduard would have done something about the closed cowl issues. it’s easy just a pain.

Thanks man, this is the first plane I’ve seen that had that type of splotchy camo on the wings. I thought it was a nice change from the standard splinter camo scheme.

Thanks man, I like that paint scheme it seemed like the only one that stood out. The rest were in the standard scheme except for one which was in the early ‘Stuka’ type scheme and I didn’t feel like doing all that masking.
