ECM Blister color on F-14's

Hiya again fellas, it’s another question from the man who knows nothing! (he,he)

I’ve got Squadron’s Walk Around in front of me and for the life of me I cannot find what color to paint the ECM Blister’s on the F-14 I am working on for the GB. Are they Tan? Anyone know what the FSM # is? I have to make a trip to the LHS to resupply my paint collection for this build. Thanks for the help! As always- you guys are fantastic.

To make this color I use Testor’s FS30219 SEA Tan and FS33613 Radome Tan. No particular ratio. Just whatever looks right to my eye but an 80/20 mix is a good start.

thanks bstrump!!! noted and I am getting ready to go there now.

Where the heck are the ECM blisters? And what’s more, what are the ECM blisters?

ECM = Electronic Counter Measures (tells things where they ain’t)

Right…I was pretty sure what the ECM part was, but are the blisters where the ECM is ejected from? And if so, where are they?

I beleive it’s under the nose of the aircraft, close to the front. It’s the small cone shaped object in back of the radome.

OK Navy, just for you I went through my F-14 pics for good shots of the ECM blisters. Just lookfor any area that is a dirty dark tan color.
Starting with the back end, there is one blister right next to the red fuel dump pipe.

Here it is from the side :

Jumping to the front of the aircraft, in this pic you can see the blister that is on the left nose gear door only, the blister that is on each intake lip, & barely visible is the one that is on the chin pod. This is a D model chin pod, but the A & B model chin pods have in the same place.

In this side shot, you can see 4 ECM blisters. 1. The nose gear door again
2. The one at the top of the intake lip 3. The thrid & fourth blisters are right under the position lights, & just above the “DANGER” in the jet intake warning triangle.
Those three blisters are also located on the other side of the aircraft, in the same positions.
The last one is located on the chin pod, just underneath the red anti-collision light. This is the A & B model chin pod.

The only thing the ECM system eject is flares, & the two flare dispensers are located underneath the aircraft, next to the arrestor hook.

Hope this helps.

Chris, you rock! That helps me out as well! I got the paint today so i am ready when I get to that point. Thanks for the help guys!

Oh well, one out of four (five, or six, or seven) isn’t bad.

Thanks Chris & Vance: I appreciate the info. An F-14D (1/48 Revell) is my next build.
Take Care, John
