Early US tanks, where can I find 'em?

Tanks like the M1 and M2. or really, any between war US tank.

I know alot of it is probably scratch built, but i’d like to find a maufacturer or kit of these tanks.

Thanks in advance.

Commander Series Models did the pre-war tanks in resin. He does not produce armor any more, I believe he just does ships. A friend of mine bought the M2A1 medium tank in 2001. I remember thinking he was crazy spending $100 on it. He recently sold it on eBay for $787: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120259702675 Not a bad return on investment.

Commander did several other pre-war tanks. I have their T3 Christie conversion for the Italeri/Zvezda BT-5, but I know they did others as well.

Only the link to their new Iron Shipwrights line is still active: http://www.commanderseries.com/pages/index.html

Commanders is out of the armor business. I have the M41 155mm HMC and was missing the wheels. I sent CSM a note and he sent me the replacement set – he said that it coincidentally was the last of his entire inventory. I wonder if he sold the masters and molds however.

Besides the M2A1 medium and the T-3 Christie conversion, they also did an M1 Combat car, the M2A1 Light tank. I think someone did a Marmon Herrington (I know S Zaloga scratchbuilt one).

I have the CSM M2A1 medium and it’ll probaby hit ebay as well…

hmmm, i’m not sure i want to pay $787 for a resin kit, i think college will be more helpful in the long run LOL.

anywho, thanks for the help, I picked up some reference books this weekend (American Armored Fighting Vehicles, Stuart light tanks in action, and Modeling the M3 & M5 stuart). I’ve got some scratch building ahead of me.

If you guys have any suggestions as to how i can create all those rivets, that would be greatly appreciated. in fact, any help at all on these upcoming projects would be great

Tichy railroad parts makes nice styrene domed rivets.

Get the right size and you’re off…

I feel your pain. Early war tanks from the various nations are my favorites. I like the different styles that countries were trying before the modern layout was implemented.

Among the areas I like are early US (up to the M4A1), Polish, early German (Pz I-early III), Italian, IJA, early Soviet. French to some extent as well.

thanks t26e4, i’ll check 'em out.

Yeah, light tanks are my fav. I’d kinda like to build a progression of the stuart sort of thing. Starting with the M1 and finishing with the M5A1. Just to show how each time, so parts and looks of the last car/tank were kept or tossed. Plus early tanks just look cool.
