Early Sherman colors

Hello –

I have the DML kit 6048 (Weenie One) and instructions indicate SandGelb RLM 79 as the primary color with some OD green overspray – Is this correct ? I have always been under the assumption of 100% OD with the exception being a winter whitewash-- I’m mostly a panzer modeller but want to expand my horizons –

Any comments /suggestions for Sherman scheme or AM decals welcome !! (Ideally I’d like to model a Kasserine era vehicle)

Thanks

The tanks left the factory in OD. In most of the N African campaign, they just remained (very dusty) olive drab. Some unit smeared the greyish mud onto the vehicles to aid in concealment. Prior to the “Husky” invasion of Sicily, orders were given that earth yellow or earth red was to be used as a camouflage color over the OD. Examples I’ve seen of earth yellow somewhat approximate DML’s suggestion of RLM 79 (which of course is formulated for Luftwaffe aircraft). You can certainly do worse.

It certainly wasn’t the primary color (OD was).

Kasserine era vehicles were all OD with mud/dust.

Thanks Roy -

I will go w/ OD base and give a good mud/dust coat
