WIP on the Meteor – here she is with the fuselage together and the dorsal seam mostly dressed:

She should be a fairly straightforward build, by the looks of it. Some metallic to spray in the engine bays and intakes, then I can get the wings together. There’s even a kit-supplied solid metal counterweight that goes behind the cockpit!

Mike-Thanks for the photos. You have a nice shot of the nav’s office and the pipe, both perspectives that I haven’t seen yet. They will be helpful. I’m looking forward to your Meteor. I’ve always liked the lines of the plane.
Now I just have to find my Miliput so I can get to work on the cushions and chute pack! I will post some more when I have a little more progress.
Mike, I shouldn’t… too many irons in the fire as is right now. But since you’re running the GB till Dec I should have plenty of time. Please put me down with the FineMolds 1/48th Nakajima Kikka.
BTW: great work on the Meteor so far, i built one a few years ago and it’s a gem of a kit.
Mac: great seats! Hope you’re posing the canopy open so all the detail is visable.
Mac – you’re most welcome! I might have a large colour three-view as well, if I can find it I’ll post it.
Gamera – I know what you mean abou too many irons in the fire, I’m swimming in half-built kits right now myself, and just yesterday priced the materials to build a new display case, something that’ll take me about two years to fill…
I’ll update the order of battle with your project and hope you can come aboard later in the year!

Mac - I like the headrest of the seat on the left… looks right to me. Maybe add some bolsters to the seat backs so they don’t look so thin?
I don’t tend to get caught up in completely accurate builds but I sure like them to look the part! I’ve heard Richie say “representation rather than duplication” many times and that method really works for me. I’ve learned a few things from that Richie character but everytime I plan on throwing something extra at a build, that phrase always comes to mind. [;)]
Nice start Mike! Must be a change of pace to glue the fuselage together before the cockpit gets built. Does your kit have the clear engine covers? I have the Tamiya Meteor kit that comes with the buzz bomb and the engine covers are clear. Just wondered if all of Tamiya’s Meteor kits come like that.
Jmabx – yes, they do, but I’ll be building her standard. Yep, it’s a real novelty to be able to join the fuselage as the first step! The engineering looks excellent throughout, though there’s a fair bit of cockpit detail missing. I doubt it’ll be noticed, though! This is the first time I’ve ever tackled the Meteor. Teamed with my Me 262 for RD II and a P-80 I have underway for FSM, I have a great lineup of very early jets for the display case (when I build it…) Throw in a MiG-9 and a Heinkel Salamander, maybe a Yak-15 and a P-59, and the Gen-1 jets are mostly covered!

Thanks, Richie, I’ll work on the Meteor some more this weekend. I meant to do a bit tonight but got stuck into decaling the SA-2, and that’s a long job. Still, the end is in sight, I should have the missile done tomorrow, dusted and all, and be able to spread my attention further, such as the S-199 for IDF II and get some masking done on the 262 and 190s.

Gamera: Not sure if the canopy will be open yet. It depends on how the office turns out. I just decided that since it is a big kit and I scooped it up for $5 that it would be a good candidate for my first attempt at scratching a cockpit.
Jeremy: I have plans to add rails and CADs to the back once I get a basic frame that I like.
Keeping an eye in here, good start.

Mike did say that already started builds were ok! I first began work on the Kikka several years ago and tried to do the undersides with Model Master Metalizer. Maybe I didn’t use it correctly- but it wasn’t able to get a good smooth finish no matter what. So I shoved her back in the box.
Now I find out apparently the two prototypes were actually painted with IJN grey undersides so all my work at creating a NM finish was a waste of time [bnghead]
Anyway it gives me an excuse to finish her for this GB!!!

Thanks for the welcome Mike. It does indeed look like a sweet kit - the engine is a jewel, with plenty of online references available, so I’m starting there. Should have some WIP pics up fairly soon.

Also, have you had any ideas about a badge yet? I’d be happy to try and come up with something. With all the unique subjects entered so far, it could be more than a bit of a challenge.

Did a bit today, just smoothed off some filler on the Meteor’s fuselage seam. I’d hoped to do more, but found myself washing & drybrushing a tank instead… [whstl] What can I say, I’ve been seduced by the dark side… M
Count me in, I need the practice. I have the Hobbycraft 1/48 AR-234 kit, actually 2 of them. I only saw this plane for the first time about a year ago and it’s fun the see something like that this late in life. This will be my 4th GB I signed onto, hopeful that it will be better than the other three and finished on time, thanks.
