Early Gato conning tower

I’m working on the Trumpeter 1/144 Gato 1941. Since some detail had been ommitted from the conning tower, I figured I could easly scratch build some stuff to go there. I’ve added some styrene for the structural parts, and wire to just busy it up some. Then AMS reared its ugly head, and I began second guessing the detail I added, so I started searching for pics of the interior of the conning tower aft gun deck. Well, can’t find any. Does anyone know where I can find some? Also, whats in those open doors on the side of the conning tower? There’s got to be something in there.

Thanks in advance,

Henry

The Floating Drydocks Gato-class plan book has numerous photos and line drawings of Gato/Balao subs.

There are several pictures shot from the lookout station toward the bow which show boxes. There are some line drawings which show the conning tower structural parts.

This is an indispensible reference for detailing a Gato/Balao. I have the hardcopy version. Tom Walkowiak at FD has recently released an updated electronic book version in PDF format on a CD. It is supposed to contain more information than the hardcopy version, which will make it a more valuable resource. I have Tom’s Cannon/Edsall, Buckley, Sumner/Gearing, and Admirable class eBooks an d they are great

Thanks Ed, that will help out a bunch.

Thank you
