I am currently working on two Eagle kits - a Warp kit and an Ertl kit. I also have the James Small Accuracy kit to go with the Ertl kit. I decided that I wanted the open cage look and started opening up the cages. I am half done using a pin vise and Xacto… More to come…
Looking great!!! Where do you find the after market parts?
You can get a lot of stuff here…
I would really like to get the turned alluminum engine bells[angel]
Looking good!
Looks great.
I know have all the cages cleared.
I am working on building up the cages themselves and integratating some of the James Small Accuracy parts with the kit.
Moving along here is another update with the cages constructed and some of the replacement parts that will be cut into place…
Just thought I would post another update…
Here is a picture with all the parts that will be going into the cages. Notice the one underway…
This is a close up of the otherside of the piece underway…
And finally this will give you an idea of the space I will have to fill with sheet styrene and some greeblies. I have some reference shots and will soon have the Replica Unlimited Eagle for reference.
Ross, That is looking really good! I’m jealous. LOL
Everytime I fine an Eagle kit the price is too high.[xx(] The Eagle has always been one of my favorite sci-fi craft.
Wow! Very labor-intensive, but it’ll be worth it in the end. Looking very good!
Paul
I bought 3-4 kits back in 2000 when they were reissued and the hobby store was clearing them out, so I got them for $15 each. I started one back then with the intent of building up an interior for it, but got disgusted with it and used the command module from another kit to build it stock. I’ll take some pictures.
It’s always been one of my favorites too, probably because it seems like the most practical, for now anyway…
Coming right along!
The difference is in the greeblies!!
A long time ago, ok about 5 years ago, I was going to build this up with a complete interior. I went as far as opening up the nose windows and starting a rough interior complete with resin ejector seats…
I ended up building it stock and I am now working on the same kit with Small’s accuracy kit.
I am getting excited because my RU Eagle should be arriving today!!!
So this weekend I started to build up the inside of the walkways. I used sheet styrene, tips of missles and a resistor… This picture should give you an idea of the finished product and all the parts, kind of a before and after…
Finally, my Replica Unlimited kit should up on Friday. WOW! Here are a couple of pictures to let you know how many pieces and how big!
Sorry this is late but I did get some work done this weekend…
The two are a comparison of a completed conversion versus a OOB
Like, wow, man. That’s cool.
Just thought I would share my progress over the weekend. I completed the Command Module Walkway Pod.
I just laid a few things out to see how they would look, I need to Thin out the spine, build up the landing pods and of course the engines. I found the article on SSM for doing the articulate landing gear and will be trying that out…
Nice progress!
Are you concerned at all about the strength of the whole thing once completed?
No, the materials and adhesives I’ve been using should allow it to support the weight. Plus I am planning on doing spring loaded landing pods.
