E-100 1-19-09 NAtural Light, Final Pictures, she is DONE

Many will recall that I have been pestering anyone who will answer, and it turns out that most of you will, with questions since I have returned to the hobby after about a 20 year Hiatus.

I have started back in with DML’s E-100. Doog has patiently walked me through the details, and Spamicus actually just sent me a cupola from his spares box when I asked for someone to post measurements so I could scratch a cupola.

I still have to weather, and actualy since these photos I toned down the camo a bit by a light coat of the dark yellow. Colors are Tamyia acrylics, slightly lighter dark yellow, dark green, and red brown.

The gun is aftermarket. More to follow.

Skirt held on to show what it will look like

German tank cleverly disguised as a broken link icon…

Apparently, your picture connection doesn’t work. The image “http://www.thelastsuperman.com/disastermaster/%23t1-4.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Hmm, I’m using Kodak Share, it doesn’t want to share, can anyone reccomend a different free sharing service.

Photobucket!

Pics up, at least I hope so…

Good stuff!

[tup] Looking good so far.

look awesome. The tracks and camo look great!

What a massive beast…looking good so far! [tup]

I decided stencilled makrings would be easier to weather convincingly, this was my first try, I think I’ll get the hang of it. The right turret marking is crroked, but would have been field-applied anyway, do you think I should sand it off and retry?

Comments appreciated.

Edit–Hmm, they look far fuzzier than they appear in person.

Pretty nice work! What a large tank in 1/35 scale.

Those painted markings look great, I outta try it out sometime. And im sure its possible some tanks had slightly crooked markings since they were painted by the crew and all.

-Brandon

OK, I reshot that crooked cross, and added black centers.

Here, I started washing, this is tricky and I"m still on a learning curve, seems like a lot of the pigment wanted to run, rather than go into the nooks like I needed. I used water soluble oil paint for the upper, and Mig dark for the running gear, the Mig is really dark stuff.

This one top is unwashed, bottom is washed.

Comments and criticism welcome, I’m still learning.

ETA, not necessarily dry in these last pictures, I just washed it.

I’d say you’re definitely getting there! It’s looking great–nice painting, and the washing seems to be going well! Don’t forget to do a light wash too, to simulate dust as part of the weathering. Don’t worry–you can always pin wash the details again. It’ll look good over that camo!

Soldier on, man–it’s really coming together! [tup]

I have a question for you concerning the cross markings…did you use tape to make the mask, or did you make a stencil? I have a couple of German WWII vehicles in the queue, as well as a Leopard 2A6 waiting for paint, and have been thinking about painting the markings instead of using decals. My current thought is to make a stencil (or template, whatever!) for the crosses…what do you think?

I like how the build is looking, and only hop emy painting skills will be (someday) as good as yours is!

Michael

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the kind words. The markings were painted using a stainless stencil, it was about $9, and has a variety of 1/35 scaled cutouts. It’s a little tough to use, you can see some soft edges where I let the stencil lift from a hull detail feature, but this was only the first time I used it. To tell you the truth, this is only my second armor model, the first was an M1 Abrams I did back in 1985. I did model a lot of aircraft at that time, though, which taught me a lot about painting.

Eduard also makes a mask that requires you to spray white first, then black, then you leave the masks on and paint your camo, leaving the maks in place until you are done. It’s really far easier than it seems, and I like the look, plus you don’t have to worry about spraying a gloss, silvering, or the wierd effect decals have on weathering.

Looking great. I like all the little extras that you added. The painted on markings look top notch also. Looking forward to seeing this one done.[:)]
