dust inside a conopy--help!

I was sanding away at a poorly fitting canopy piece and accidentally sanded too thin and have a hole! [:S] Now I have sanding dust on the inside of my otherwise clear canopy. Any Idea how to get dust off the inside of the clear piece? I can figure out how to patch the hole…but I want to get rid of that dust first!

maybe a compressed air can, like dust-off? As long as it doesn’t destroy your interior.is that the only opening? Or is other parts of the canopy open?

ooh… well, the dustoff might work, but be warned, pressure could start bending if not popping thingoff the model. otherwise, I have no other ideas.

I would just pop the canopy off to keep from damaging anything else.

Yup, just use a hobby knife and slowly break the seal on the canopy. Pop it off clean and repair the hole.

If you used CA to attach the canopy, put the bird in the freezer for a few hours and it’ll pop right off. If you used cement, run a little bit at the join and it’ll soften the weld, just enough, to pull off the canopy without cracking anything.

If you choose to repair the canopy in situ, Boba’s suggestion is a good one, you can use a can of compressed air, or even a little low-pressure blast with an airbrush, to blow the dust out.

There are also little rubber bladders that you can get, kind of like a handball with a nozzle molded on it, that you squeeze and release to puff a little blast of air. I think MicroMark sells them, but also the office supply stores, for blowing dust from keyboards.

Here’s the problem with the canned air solution; without another hole for the air to pass through, the dust will have no where to go, since the hose will be blocking the one and only hole. Plus, static electricity is pretty damn strong. There’s a better than average chance that you won’t be able to dislodge the dust, in the first place.

Another possibilty - you’re going to end up knocking off some fiddly bit, which will require removal of the canopy, anyway.
