I just got back into modeling after many years and am using enamels. I will be gloss coating with Future. Since many here don’t like Testors Dullcote, what should I use for my finish matte coat? Can I use acrylic matte coat over enamel?
I use testors clear acryl flat. Gives a good finish, and has all the clean-up benifits of acrylic.
If you’re using Future as your gloss coat, then you’ll be putting the flat coat over that. The testors clear acryl flat and Future seem to get along quite nicely.
Any problems switching between acrylics and enamels with the same airbrush?
Spraying separate models, right? (Goodness I hope so!)
I’ve never tried this BUT if you thoroughly cleaned the airbrush between using the two different types of paint, it would be just fine.
However, I don’t spray the different types of paint on the same model unless I give the first plenty of time to dry. I don’t fully understand all the chemistry but I do know that if you put acrylic on top of wet ename, it’s not going to turn out well. And since I’m usually only airbrushing one project on a time, that means there’s two days between my spraying enamels and my spraying acrylics (or vice versa). That’s why I’ve never had occaison to try switching right from the other!
I spray both through my airbrush with no problems. Just make very very sure that you clean thoroughly and let ample time for the airbrush to dry out before using it again.
madda
I’ve used Testor’s Dullcote spray cans for years and haven’t experienced any problems with it except maybe the occasional high from inhaling a little too much of it.
