References needed. If anyone out there has some good book references on the Magach/Patton tanks, I’d love some links.
Does anyone know if this book is a good photo reference?

it’s alright for references, but not too long ago there was a book published by Tankograd that highlights the magach quite a bit. Don’t know where you can get it, but it’s “IDF Armoured Vehicles”. I also know of a book that’s solely based just on the Magach and it’s variants. Give me a day and I’ll find it!
Is this it? IDF Armoured Vehicles by Vollert.
Also on Amazon here. Dang, $160. I guess that is out of the question for me.
Michael Mass has a great book on the Magach variants available through Legend Productions. So far, it’s all later versions of the 6B.
That’s the book! I just PM’d him to find out where it’s available in the US. I think you didn’t look at the price of the book… There are 160 pages to the book, and it’s 69.95 from that link you gave me… not 160 bucks. I have their Merkava book and it’s been more of a bible for me when it comes to my Merk builds. I recommend anything from them, and for that price, I’m gonna have to order from them, I paid 90 for my Merk book.
Mr Mass’ book is available from Squadron, is that the one you’re referencing? It should be under $30 US. It’s loaded wioth great candid shots…I finally figured out why the Israeli crews “park” with the main gun fully depressed.
Well I do talk to Michael on a not so regular basis, but I didn’t know where his book was available… THAT is the book I was refering to yes.
It’s great. Excellent investment.
The $158.70 comes from the 1 “new or used” available on Amazon, the second link.
I’m going to check out the Legend angle. Thanks guys.
Building a dual Magach 6B dio that is based on this photo of two Batashes sitting at a corner during the war. I can’t afford to spend the $200 on the Batash conversion kits from Squadron. ![]()

And I’d search on Squadron, but their search doesn’t work for me. I put in ‘Books, Military’ and ‘IDF’ and I get the same result set that I do when searching for ‘Magach’.
Technically, I think their site doesn’t clear their search results from the cookie, because restarting the browser seems to fix the issue, but I am not restarting my browser every time I want to search on Squadron. ![]()
Just for completeness in the thread, to beef later searches on this subject, here is a direct link to Legend’s page for this book.
Thanks to all.
I’m actually building one of these at the moment (slowly) I got the kit free from my LHS… It’s the AEF designs conversion. I’d be interested to see you scratch build one of these because they aren’t available in plastic!
AEF…eeek! I bet that’s fun.
not at all LOL, which is why I’m doing it slowly
I have a couple IDF builds on the go, but with three Merkavas already finished, the ball and chains are really wearing me thin… I have the Merk II Batash, Magach 6 Batash and a Merkava with MCRS on the go… I pulled out the Magach recently to see what’s left to do. The joy with the free kit was that the guy who had it before me had an obsession with taking EVERY part off of the sprues soooo… LOL oh well atleast I got a few sets of Fruils and the resin I didn’thave to pay for!
Friuls! I’m always on the lookout for the Merk I and II sets…good score.
RBaer try Tank Rats AFV Depot. He has a large selection of friuls and they are only 32 bucks. Total cost including shipping for mine came to just over 41 bucks. Everywhere else I was looking at a combined price of 55+ for them.
Michael
Ordered the book from Squadron (got paid this morning), so happy about that. If one of you guys has any information on the FS color I need for basic Israeli armor, I’d appreciate it. That will help me keep working while I await delivery.

Check out the above link.
There is huge debate about the colour of IDF tanks… however my friends who have served in them have said that the colour is more of a green drab. I use Model Master Green Drab and mix successive US Marine Sand into it to lighten it. Can’t tell you the ratios but I can give you a couple pics of my IDF stuff. Not having a solid ratio allows some variation in shades which the “sand grey” gives IRL. Here’s a pic of my Merk III and Magach 7A

Hope that helps
