DS tracks and Shermans,

A match made in tank modeler’s heaven! The owner of my local shop pretty much holds a set or two back for me whenever he gets some in, knowing I’m such a sucker for them. It’s probably the best single motivator for me to finish (or at least move forward on) all these Shermies that have been on the shelf for so long. In progress M4 105, shortened two links, and that’s their natural “lay”. Love it.

While I’m here, a question for the Sherman literati that I’ve ben unable to come up with an answer to: would the 105 turrets have the bulged casting on the right front? I’m assuming “yes” since they’re late high-bustle with a loadrer’s hatch…

Are all DS tracks two links too long? I’ve heard with Late Tigers that two links must be removed to use the smaller idler wheel. Are they just too long for Shermans too? I’ve got the orange box Firefly Ic with DS tracks. Will they need shortened?

Erik

All the DS Sherman tracks that I’ve bought have been too long, don’t know exactly which tracks are in`the 1c, but I would surely test fit them. I have found it easier to shorten them after they’re glued at the normal place by removing those two links, just a little less fiddly for me.

Also, I’m using them on Tamiya and Italeri lits as well as Dragon, and the need to shorten them is pretty much common to all.

Yes, add the turret cheek bulge. Also add the cleaning rod rack on the left rear engine deck. This was missed by Tamiya. You can scratch one or get one from Formations. I’ve done the same conversion too.

Got the cleaning rods done, look OK? Anything else come to mind?

I’ll do the turret bulge, thanks Roy.

You could do the sandshield mounting/railing on the bottom sides of the upper hull…(right over the tracks).

Russ, she’s looking good. What all AM have got going on here?

D-master, good idea.

Charlie, Italeri lower hull and suspension, probably Tamiya upper, Dragon tracks, prolly a Dragon pistol port (not sure why, the Tamiya turret has one), a couple of Academy parts, some scratched, Italeri engine deck, and surely some other stuff that I’ve forgotten. This is another one that’s been on the back burner for quite a while. I’ve got a Tamiya M4A3 105 in the stash for the rest of the pieces and a JR 105 barrel rolling around somewhere.

Thanks for the feedback, I use it.
