Hey Gang… Never dealt with dry transfers on a model kit before. Have some with this P-47 build I’m doing. Any tips/tricks out there??
Are they the HobbyDecal stencils? If so I’ve never had luck with those.
No, they are the kit supplied decals in the academy gabreski kit… Not sure who did them. The other decals are cartograf
I have only used dry transfers a few times and my luck is hit and miss on them. Above all, placement and alignment are paramount because you only have one shot. They can not be floated and re-positioned like waterslide decals, nor moved during the set up. They do work just fine on a flat or slightly curved surface, but on contoured or textured surfaces of any sort they can be a real bear. And be careful with burnishing them down so that the whole transfer comes off the backing sheet- not too hard, but not too soft. Practice is highly recommended.
Also be aware that they have a relatively short shelf life. Old ones don’t work.
Hi…there is only one trick:to set the dry transfer on to a clear decal sheet…then apply the decal so formed on the model…it work… I’ve done this on this model for the tail code:
