The battery on my Mini-mite won’t charge anymore. It is probably 8 years old and I noticed that not long before it died that it didn’t fit tightly anymore. I’m thinking about a single-speed Dremel and using the foot-operated speed controller. Anybody have any experience with this combination or comments about it? Thanks for your help, Gary.
I can’t speak for the foot controller, but my Mini-Mite died a similar death. But for what it cost and the years of service it gave, I can’t complain. I splurged and upgraded to the Dremel Multi-pro.
Hi Gary,
I also have gone through a couple of batteries.[censored] At first I considered buying another battery and charger but they cost as much as buying a complete unit. That way I have two units available with different bits and allows a quick change by moving the battery.[:D] If you haven’t considered it don’t leave the battery in the charger after it is charged you could end up with a bad battery and a bad charger.[xx(]
I tried the foot control method and didn’t care much for it but that is probably me.
Good luck,
Richard
Price-wise I would get a generic motor tool with foot pedal.
I have a Multi-pro, and even on it’s lowest speed, it is too fast. It now sits dormant.
I since got a mini-mite for $ 45., Still too fast and bulky, then saw a generic tool with pedal, flexible extension chuck, and several bits for only $ 25. I still end up doing the majority of sanding by hand.
I had the same problem and after tossing the mini-mite across the room and a few choice words, my wife came to the rescue this past Christmas. She bought me the Dremel cut-out tool kit “The Dremel Advantage”. It is vairable speed, comes with a plunge router attachment and a flex wand about 3 ft long with a small hand held pc.
If you are into diorams as well it is one of the best tools I have ever used. Good luck and enjoy.
Cheers
