Does anyone remember what the name of the post on this model was a couple of months ago?? Better yet, does anyone remember where the reveiw of the kit was? I’ve looked at Missing Links, Perth, and Hyperscale. I can’t find the review that was initally placed here. It talked about how the kit figures came with extra heads. But more importantly, as I recall, it mentioned that the kit insturctions say to mount an incorrect set of idlers, even though the correct ones are included with the kit. Help, help!!

I’ve got it as well JWest but can’t find anything about the idler either. I’m not planning on building it for a while though, so hopefully someone else will get their first and post about it…

One problem with the suspension is the idler wheel which is depicted with a solid rubber tyre as with the Panzer 1A idler. The idler wheel on the Panzer 1B was in fact a new all metal design with a gap between the inner and outer wheel discs with connecting ribs and the box top art actually shows the correct configuration. Granted this is a difficult design to replicate in injection plastic but hopefully Dragon can have another look at this in any future kits on this chassis.
Doesn’t look like you can fix the problem without buying an aftermarket replacement. The timing is incredible. Maybe my wife is wrong and the world really does revolve around me
Yeah, I think I won’t build it, I will wait. With the Indie tracks, you couldn’t even build it now and take the wheel off later to replace it with an aftermarket part (when it becomes available.) Basically, you either build it wrong and live with it or wait and see who comes out with a correction, if any
Building it with the I-A idler wouldn’t bother me…I don’t know enough about the I-A or I-B to know the difference and once it’s built and on the shelf, no one else who looks at it will likely know the difference either. Since you would need two AM parts they likely won’t be cheap and the cost of this kit wasn’t all that high to begin with.
As for trying to turn that sucker on a lathe, that would be a challenge since it’s not that big to begin with and the adjustments would have to be VERY precise to get both wheels to look right.
Excellent point. I am sure the only two who see it are my wife (who wouldn’t know the difference between a Pz I and a Panther) and my daughter who would flush it down the toilet regardless of the idler wheel.
Thanks, Guys. I’ve seen all these articles and they aren’t the one I’m thinking of. Who knows, maybe it was for a different tank, like Dragons IV J. I’ve been known to make similar mistakes. But I distinctly remember the article mentioning that there were two figures and two extra heads (there is really only one extra head, I believe.)
Like I’ve always said, I have a mind like a steel trap, the only problem is…it’s rusted shut! lol
I checked my old Italeri kits last night and they have the same detail. I think I could chuck the rear idler in my Sherline and yrun the details out. But it would be tricky with the plastic and all. I plan on running it by a couple of machinists and see what they say.
Somebody with machineing skills ought to make up a master, cast resin copies and offer them to his/her modeling buddies!! (Got to be careful about the commercial aspect of it here on the forum, though!!)
