In a past workbench review of this kit, the author stated that he had problems with the fit of the treads. I was wondering if others have had this problem or are they more or less an easy fit. Also, are they multipiece tracks or singular? Thanks for any info.
They are link to link tracks and don’t have sinkmarks or flash on them. I haven’t started building them yet so I can’t comment on the fit.
This is my third attempt to post a message on this thread. I hope it works this time!
I replaced the DML tracks on my Elefant with a set from Jaguar (purchased from greatmodels.com). The DML tracks are wrong. There are two cleats in the center of the treads that DML molded facing the wrong way. Compare the treads to the picture on the boxtop. The Jaguar tracks are half the price of Fruil or Model Kasten and were made for the Italari model, but they fit perfectly. I painted them with a mix of Humbrol leather and burnt umber oil paint, then dry brushed them with model master steel and silver. They look pretty good.
Good luck,

Also,
The way I did my tracks was to clip them off the trees, sand and polish lightly with a Kiss 4 grit emery board (WalMart), then glue them up against a straight edge. I used Tamiya Extra Thin cement and let the lengths I made up for the bottom cure completely, then worked up lengths to go up to and around the drive and idler wheels. If you let them set up for about 15 minutes or so, you will still be able to “mold” them around the wheels without all the links falling apart. Then work on the top center portion again letting them set up for a while, but not completely cure. Then you can work a very realistic sag in the tracks and will be able to tweek the number of links to get the sag to just hit the two center road wheels.
The one place I had to be real cautious was in cutting the links off the sprews. More than one broke above one of the end attachment points. I think I wound up cutting the center point first then each of the end ones in turn. This seemed to put less stress on the end points.
Good luck and have fun.

Thanks for responding guys. Wipw thanks for the additional pointer on the Jag tracks, I’ll have to look into them. I’ve built a few tanks with the single links, so hopefully I shouldn’t have any problems with them. Where would you reccomend getting them for the best price? Thanks again.
Sorry Bill, I spaced, I see where you got them. Thanks again.
