i knew better but i bought it any way 1/35 M4 halftrack.what a piece of junk for the money.if it aint made by the big T it aint doodoo
Care to elaborate? It looked pretty nice to me.
Yeah, it should be a vast improvement over the ancient Tamiya offering. Reviews that I’ve read were quite favorable. What issues did you encounter?
I can’t comment on the Dragon kit, but I just recently bought Tamiya’s M3a2 Halftrack with a Trakz suspension system and Eduard Detail set. I try to avoid buying anything made in China (that includes Hong Kong) due to political and social reasons. Of course I still have to buy things made in China due to a lack of choice. I will say that Dragon’s kits a very nice. I think Tamiya’s kit is still nice if one buys a PE set to go with it.

I have the Dragon half track kits. With the exception of mines molded into the storage racks, I find them to be far superior to any Tamiya release to date. I also find them to be quite reasonably priced.
I disagree 100% with your assessment. As Ian as stated, perhaps you can elaborate as to the main points of your displeasure.
These kits have been reviewed on several modeling sites, and examined and built by several builders who have garnered great respect in the community. I don’t recall one of them referring to the Dragon offerings as “junk”.
It is therefore very difficult to lend any credibility to your comments. It is always beneficial to fully explain problems that others may help you with. Perhaps a pic of a particular issue, or some type of statement that has a point to it, may be beneficial.

Well, this is a hobby it is supposed to be “fun [party]”.
Saying this product is bad or good clouded by personal social and political issue just dont cut it.
Please be subjective.

[#ditto]I have the kit as well and I feel the same as Crockett: the “flattened tires” and the mines in the rack (which is an optional piece) are the only minor issues…the rest–IMO–is a work of art, particularly the suspension and track components…if you can’t expand on your comments I feel that your assertions are invalid, with all due respect…
I think the Dragon Armor kits are awesome kits, I just have a real problem with China’s labor laws and treatment of their employees. Heck, that’s how come their kits are cheap (money-wise) compared to what you get in the box. I won’t buy a kit from Iran or North Korea either. I think too many people in our country buy the cheapest thing they can and don’t care about how it was produced. I try not to support rampant, unchecked environmental pollution, child labor, and social abuses. But hey, that’s just me. If you want to support China, go ahead. Now I just got to figure out how to get this lead paint off my kids toys…
Yea i thought the dragon kit was supposed to be really good. And usmc my pops wont let me buy out of the U.S. because yu dont know if your gonna get cheated or end up with some sickness or disease. You never know so he only buys from the U.S.
I guess you don’t buy gasoline either, since it primarily comes from countries who support and/or export terrorism and have millions of human rights abuses, particlarly against women…right?
Before this thread gets too politically heated let me try to divert back to extanker’s original (and as yet unfounded) assertion:
While Big T is fantastic, I find that DML is a prime force in moving the hobby forward. Their M2/M2A1 and M4 Mortar Carrier are fantastic kits. Just look at the suspension units and tracks of the Tamiya old kits and the DML ones.
While Tamiya is an easy build, the DML ones completely push the envelope in accuracy.
Maybe you’re having a problem w/your M4? If so, please post it and maybe some of us can help?

I don’t think he will…from the tone of his post he seems to be trolling…but if does come back w/ some legitimate issues, I’ll be the first to apologize…IMO, the Tamiya offering was, at best, substandard before DML’s came out, and now, at best, it is totally obsolete…
I agree w/you about the Tamiya kits – but they hold a special place in my heart! I shot down tons of Luftwaffe a/c from my carpet with my M16 MGMC when I was thirteen!

LOL, for me as well, and for some subjects, I still buy them: Mk IV H and J models, Marder III, Panther G, Tiger II, Kubel, Schwimm, Steyr, etc…
MODEL…BUILD…FUN!!!
…DON’T LIKE IT?..DON’T BUILD IT!!!
…DON’T WANT TO BUILD IT?..GIVE IT AWAY!!!
MODEL…BUILD…FUN!!!
Thank you , I’m gone…
Manstein’s revenge,
That’s just an ignorant comment. Maybe you need to go back and read my post again: I try to avoid buying anything made in China (that includes Hong Kong) due to political and social reasons. Of course I still have to buy things made in China due to a lack of choice. Now I really don’t have choice on where my gas comes from huh?

Dude, just going by what you wrote in your post…now you feel the need to clarify…maybe you need to think twice before you post broad, sweeping and ignorant comments that you can’t really stand behind or don’t really mean…if you want to discuss further, please PM me so we can get your political rant off of the Forum…

I’m with Manny on this one (and not just because I have most of the kits he listed in my stash!) - some of their kits have been rendered “obsolete” - but certainly not all, especially if you’re willing to do a little extra…
Manstein’s revenge,
Take a minute, scroll back to my first post and you’ll see I clearly stated that I do buy things from China if I have no choice. Read, it’s simple.
The whole point I was trying to make was that the Tamiya Halftrack kits are nice kits once aftermarket accessories are added. Their are plenty of articles in magazines showing how to take an old kit and make it into a real “show-stopper”. The Tamiya Halftrack kits can be bought at less than $20 and the PE at $10. Throw in a new suspension for about $20 and you got a really nice looking model for $50.00. If you don’t care for Dragon kits for whatever reason, you can still make a nice halftrack by using Tamiya’s old kits.
I was thinking, this could make an interesting group build. Have one person update an old kit like Tamiya’s M3a2 and another person make a current release like Dragons M3a1. This could be done with Sherman, Tigers, Panthers, etc.
