Dragon wagon pics

hey all,
Here are some pics of the tractor half of the Tamiya 1/35 Dragon wagon. There is alot of weathering and stuff that doesnt show up on the pics, mainly on the tires. Also alot of the silver I used to show wear down to bear metal. well anyways heres the pics. Any comments are welcome.

well there they are. I will post pics of the trailer when it gets done

Thanks

jim

Very nice. I hope when I get mine done, it looks even half that good. Can’t wait to see the trailer. What are you going to put on it?

Great looking build. A freind of mine built one last year. That sucker is huge when you add in the trailer.

Regards, Rick

Looking good so far. Couple of pointers. To remove the mold lines on the soft rubber tires, I used the extra spare rim and chucked it in my motor tool and turned the tires at a moderate speed onto 100 grit sand paper. This grinds down the mold line and gived a nice, worn look. You can also grind some more than the others and grind the edges more round on some to show wear and newer/older tires. Also, the chain on the spare tire block and tackle should also be painted OD Green, not left brass. Lastly, needs more bare metal/rust/grease on the 5th wheel and ramps running up to it. This area is usually pretty nasty. .

I have built three versions of the good old DW.

A standard M25 DW:

M26A1 Soft Cab Recovery Vehicle:

M123A1C w/M15A1 trailer (highly modified M15 trailer and lots of parts from M25 DW kit for tractor):

Looks great, few additions and it will be awesome. Can’t wait to see the M15 as well

[:D]great work on all the kits i hope to post some pics of my bren gun carrier soon with the base on,great work guys[:D]

Very nice biuld. You’re right, not much weathering shows up in the pics. It was a fun kit to build, wasn’t it? I found this to be one of my most enjoyable modelling experiences, when I built mine.

Looks great! There’s a ton of detail there isn’t there? can’t wait to see the finished product!

Always great seeing these detailed monsters! Great job.

hey all,
Thanks for the kind words. Ill have to fix the chain and 5th wheel problems. As for the kit itself, I was just there to apply glue n paint, It has pretty much put itself together. This is probubly the best fitting kit I have ever done. It is definately #1 on the best fitting kit list.

those are some nice trucks HeavyArty, I dont do much armour, so Im still trying to figure this out, Its a little different than wingey things [:D].

thanks for all the advice guys, I do use it all, I dont make the same mistakes over again anyways [:p]

thanks all
jim

Great looking build. You are right about the kit, has to be one of the best out there. On the one I did , for the 5th wheel I used black oil paint for the grease. Still had the wet look once it was dry so worked great. Another thing I noticed, while it might be the lighting , it has a bit of a shine to the paint. If you have’nt done so might be able to put a dull coat and pastels on it to knock it down.

Here’s the one I did so you can see what the oil paint looks like on it.

Very nice build. It was a fun kit, but i don’t think mine is as good as yours. I want to put mine on a board or something or make a dio, but im afraid to move it from the shelf. I can’t wait to see your pics

Nice clean build. I understand how you feel about the weathering not showing up in the pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Really good looking build Jim. I’m probably more of a traditionalist, so the clean look is more to my liking, but the suggestions given, and examples are all very good, and certainly acheive what they are meant to do. I would think that if further waethering is planned in conjunction with a diorama, this is a good time to hold off that step until the rest of your components get to the point of your Dragon wagon. I’m sure you’ve likely already taken that into consideration. Thanks for sharing your work with us, and thanks to everyone else, for sharing their tips, and work. Semper Fi, mike

real nice----and real big!

hmmm, theres more to this armour thing than i first thought.[:D] It really does look pretty clean, but I really wasnt going for the really dirty look, just used slightly. The pastels I used and the grey wash I did on the tires didnt show up in the pics, and the thing looks alot shinnier than it really is [:(] , the wife and I havnt figured out how to get rid of that yet. I like the oil paint idea, I used to do a little of that a while back, and hadnt even considered that possibility for the grease.

thanks for all the advice, and the reference pics.

jim

great build there Jim [:p] would just weather the chain a bit , it looks a little shiny [;)] and dusting with pastels and it gonna be a exellent looking workhorse [:p]
