Just started modelling after a considerable break, been reading the magazine for about a year, and plumped for my first kit after reading reviews on the above. Firstly comments about the model, bit disapointed, instructions not very clear, (particularly the changes between, early, late, late command, etc), and the fit of the larger parts of the chassis not very good. The last models I made were by Tamiya, and if this is anything to go by, I much prefer them. The larger parts appear to be warped, could it be because the kit may have been in the shop window? (The sun is brutal in Australia). If that is the case my criticism would seem a bit unfair on Dragon.
Still, would like to ask advice regarding; how to paint rusty exhausts, no zimmerit, how to apply that, and the rear idler, what position do you put it in?
I’ve used Cavalier zimmerit sheets on three vehicles so far and have had good results. The sheets are thin resin, made specifically for a certain kit, and are glued in place with superglue. The sculpting is usually pretty good, and includes chipped and missing sections. The sheets run about $20 US.
And yes, the instructions are absolutely maddening. You’d think they could cut down a few more trees and spring for a few more sheets of less cluttered diagrams.
As far as the idler goes, I have mine sticking out…the tracks go on easier that way [(-D]
Welcome to the site Andy you picked a good kit but maybe not the easiest, im not sure if its the exact kit you have but most of the details are the same as the one in article in the link below i did a year or two back it may help you a little.
