well I had this bugger sitting around for about 6 years in storage partly started. So last month I decided to try to finish this bugger. I have the frame built and primed black (I’ll have picks of the frame when I take them since it is still in the garage.)
I built the Scud Missile 6 years ago and only painted it this year.

The Control cabins I built last week and painted.

I am pretty sure that the part I painted clear green is a computer screen even though the instructions said to paint it metallic gray which doesn’t make sense since when did computer screens appear a grayish color?
I lost the bar on the curved part on the gantry so I am going to replace it with a piece of paper clip the same diameter so that will solve that problem. And I will do the same with the drivers side step as well.
well I’ll replace some of the pics when I get a chance to take some better ones.
I built this kit years ago, I found the axles would not support the weight of the body, replace with brass rods and it will set better.
well hopefully mine will stay on since I hadn’t added the wheels yet still have to paint the hubs on both sides a sand color. not sure though if I’ll go for Testors modern Armour sand or Tamiya’s desert yellow. and the Axle arms are super glued on and the axles are not glued on but floating in place between the arms.
Built this kit a while ago, then someone was cleaning my shelves, and the kit suffered an irrepairable accident. Been meaning to pick up another once to build once again. The kit needs a lot of work, especially if detailing is what you’re after. There is a mass of cables that is completely missing from the kit. Most of the parts don’t allign properly. But when built, it really is a beautiful looking beast.
and the missile is a kit upon itself too. Only time my dad saw them in action was when they were constantly raining down on Daharan Saudi Arabia back in 91. 10 missiles every 2 hours. He actually saw the missile that killed those soldiers in their barracks that had just arived 4 hours earlier. BTW I am going to build the Iraqi version hense the missile painted in white. oh and dont forget there are a mass of fueling hoses as well.
well this is my first time ever doing panel lines in Sharpie pen.

work is progressing pretty slowly on the Scud and its launcher. But at least I have a little tiny bit more to do on the missile then at least the missile will be done. and first thing I will be doing on the launcher is painting the Chassis and the wheel hubs sand color then attaching the wheels.
I noticed something about the raised lines on the nose of the Scud they look like they belong to the Warhead identifier bands to indicate what warhead is loaded. Hopefully I am correct in this assumption.
The Edward PE for the interior is really a must. The age of the kit has some truely bad interior goofs in the cabs that edward addresses. Also some neat extras for the missle cabs (little fans). The Concord book on Russian missles has great pictures of the cabling attached to the launcher. I suspect you can find them on the net - search for MAZ 543 and look at google pics.
I’m currently converting one to the AA-60 Fire engine.
The most dissappointing aspect is the very simplified suspension details. I suspect if you had a spare LAV kit around you could use it to add “gizmos” to the very plane Dragon suspension.
To echo other writers, the suspension is very fragile - be careful when putting the wheels on and setting it down - the arms can break off very easily form a hard setdown.
Great work so far
Great Model Webstore carries the new Eduard set for the DML Scud kit. Might work on a “new build” kit but I had most of the parts done almost a decade ago. I’ve gotten started on painting so far I I have the missile control room doors done and a couple of the drivers compartment doors done and am going to get started on painting the chassis. At the same time I am working on a Escii T-72 kit with Fruilmodel metal tracks. Well I’ll take pics of the T-72 tonight and hopefully have another thread up about my T-72.
well here are some pics of the painted Chassis pleas note though I am going to touchup the tires later today as well as paint the Axels. Also do note that the axels are not glued onto the chassis they are held in place by the compression of the suspension arms on the Axel itself.

well finally finished up the retouching of the wheels on the Chassis so they look pretty good so far.
