There is a local hobby store that has both the Dragon Pzkpfw III Ausf E (#9040) and Ausf H (#9029) models on sale for about $18 (they are on clearance). How would you rate the quality/accuracy of these kits? I don’t know a lot about Dragon’s older kits. Thanks.
I don’t have either, but if it’s similar to my G, then I’d say that is a good deal. They are nice kits. The only thing about the E is that I think they are making a retooled version of it to be released some year. For the money, I’d get it.
Hi russamys
I built the Dragon Pzkpfw III ausf H and it was a very good and accurate model to build. They are of excellent quality and you would be getting your money’s worth if you got them at the price. This is how mine came out in DAK build.

Thanks for your opinions guys. Great job on the H model! If they are still available I will buy them both.

Sweet build Tiger II.
I built the H and really liked it. It went together nicely. The E I have wanted for years I would buy both at $18 each they are a deal!
Hi! I have both kits - built the Ausf H version DAK style and really liked the way it came out. I bought the E after seeing a built one that one of my friends made. I was looking for something I could do in Panzer Gray so I bought it - also liked the gun mantlet with the twin machine guns. Both kits have a lot of parts in common with the early Stug kits so if you have built one of them, it should be the same kind of build. I wasn’t crazy about the kit link tracks so I got Fuil tracks for both. Also sprung for an Aber metal barrel. Other than that, the rest was out of the box.
BTW, you can get a Verlinden resin diorama base with the columns shown on the Ausf E’s boxart. I used it for the Ausf H kit and the PZIII just fits nicely on the roadbed. Sorry I don’t have a digital camera or I’d post some pics.
Enjoy[:)]

Good looking Pz III H there Tiger. What did you paint the base with?
I must have been asleep when I was at the store yesterday. I went back to Hobbytown to pick up both kits today. One was the Ausf E, but the other was the Pzbflsw III Ausf K, not the Pzkpfw III Ausf H. Anyhow, the K was also half price, so I bought it.
I also picked up a Dragon 250/5 that was half off also ($13). I told the owner I may have to rent out space to sleep there should my wife find out I have added three more kits to my already overflowing, and as yet unbuilt, collection. Regardless, I was glad to find a good deal!
Again, thanks for the input from all. You guys are great!

Nice score. I wish the Hobbytown I know of would have sales like that.
Usually their sale room is stocked with automobile kits or other off the wall stuff. This is the first time in memory that I have seen any armor in there. They also have a 1/35 scale Italeri Bergpanzer. for about $10. I wasn’t sure if it was of decent quality (I have never built an Italeri model), so I passed on it.
Where is this Hobby Store!!!
LOL - Green Bay, WI. Probably a little further than you want to drive!
Tigerman, I stained the base with MinWax stain (Mahogany) then after it dried I scored it and put down celluclay. The celluclay was tinted with Flat Earth paint by Tamiya. After it dried I airbrushed Burnt Sienna color lines to imitate the North African deserts look.
