Dragon Pz IV Ausf D - WIP

Pzkpfw IV Ausf D (3-in-1), I opted for the production variant, Russian front. This is my first (and last!) Dragon superkit. The number of pieces and troubles during assembly is just insane, let alone photo-etched, which should always be optional (I used the plastic instead PE wherever there was an option). Some PE parts were just minuscule. Problems with fitting, unacceptable for such details and price. I also used the plastic barrel instead the metal one, because it has more detail (rifling grooves). This kit made me wish PE be banned in modeling [}:)]

Just painted, with a pinwash and basic drybrushing.

The “Super” kit IVs definitely are an exercise in patience at over 1000 parts. I’ve built the IV E and have the D in the stash and I will build it some day, but I will have to be in a special mood to do so. Looks like you’ve conquered this one though, congrats on getting it across the finish line.

Nicely done…the parts count in this kit is what drove DML to the SMART kit concept…I, like Bill, admire you finishing this !!! I believe the model has more parts than the real thing did…lol…

Manny, don’t tell me that…got the C, D, AND E (Vorpanzer) all in the stash awaiting their turns…[:O]

to be honest with ya i really like the three in one package.true there are many parts,i have one built and two in the stash, all e’s.

Finished

3.Kompanie, Panzer-Regiment 11, 6.Panzer-Division, France 1940

Congrats on getting this one across the finish line! [tup]

Thanks, for now I want to build a very simple kit [:D]

Looks great and definatly worth the effort but i must agree with you i have several of the super kit IV’s and shudder whenever i take them out to look at then quickly put them back heh one day i will get to them.

Thanks Ron, indeed, I’ve been working on it for 6 months now, and I only build one at a time. It just didn’t end ! Eventually I went for the France 1940 markings because I couldn’t lay the decals over the side hatches for the Russian variant [B)] The 1940 didn’t have decals on the sides of the turret, but also the regimental markings were covered by gas canisters [:)]

dragos, Gray has never looked so good. When I opened up my first Dragon kit I could’nt get over all the PE.I had no idea that kit’s had come that far since the last time I had built a model. I think I only ended up using the metal tow shackels. Now three years later I love the stuff, well most of the time anyway lol.

Really nice. Although the finsihed model looks awesome, what I find especially appealing about the build is that you finished it to such a high degree despite you original frustration… Makes the end product just that much better. Really well done!

Great looking build regardess of the hurdles you encountered. You leapt right over them. Your feelings toward part count and PE were … we… very clear[;)]. For me the more parts the merrier. And PE is just icing on the cake.[:P]

Wow Dragos, great finish! [tup][tup]

Took a while but the end result is definitely worth it. [;)]

Thanks guys ! [#toast]

My next build is switch to aircraft, SBD-5 Dauntless [:D]
