Yes they have, but one can understand why. They offer so much pe and am anymore, that someone (the consumer) must pick up the cost. Still a bargain compared to Tamiya.
I don’t have any hard figures on hand, but I would say the average income is higher here in Japan, but so is the overall cost of living.
Japanese kits (Tamiya, Hasegawa, Fujimi, Bandai, etc.) are much less expensive here, but import kits from the West (Accurate Miniatures, Monogram, Revell, Airfix, Heller, Emhar, etc.) are much more expensive. The Chinese and Taiwanese kits (Dragon, Trumpeter, AFV Club) are just a bit more expensive here than they seem to be in the West.
So, it’s hard to say, without doing the hard math based on the percentage of average income. For domestic Japanese kits, the cost against salary is quite low. For imported kits, costs are inflated.
Come to think of it, that’s the same everywhere, isn’t it? [;)]
I’d have to agree. Granted, Tamiya seems to be much cheaper in Japan. Monogram definitely is the cheapest in North America. Anyone from Europe here can tell me whether Italeri and Revell AG are cheaper there?
Even Tamiya is releasing a 1/35 Stug B with an aluminum barrel and I think pe grilles as well. Whom do you think they thought of when they decided to make that move? [;)]
Must say am just doing Dragons 88mm Flak 37 & even though they have removed the crew they still come up with small details like flat spots on the tyres so they look like they are under load,& who gives you 4 barrels (2 aluminum 2 plastic) but also 3 gun shilds.
So we may bitch about cost but may we should keep quite as they may stop them all together?[BH]
