All done, I used Aber, Eduard, Tank Workshop, Karaya, Fruilmodel AM products to complete this late A model. Vehicle is a “Wiking” Panther fromm a reference pic during the fighting outside Warsaw in the autumn of '44.
Tamiya Acriylics, Lifecolour, Polyscale flat and Mig Pigments as well. Zimmerit and welds on the cupola were done with the hot knife. I used kit decals over the extra track on the turret, a technique I’ve been wanting to try for a while. I “melted them” in with Solvaset, and I was after that sloppy “hand applied look”.
Nice work as usual Steve, but the photos are a bit washed out so it’s hard to pick out the different color tones, maybe check the white balance on your camera? I especially like the hand-painted looking numbers on the turret side tracks (Solvaset’s a wonderful thing!), nice touch. [tup]
Looks great! you are to hot knife zimmerit, what The Biffoog (Doog+Biffa=The Biffoog) is to weathering! If I had to criticize one thing, I’d say that the camo olivgrun and signalbrun blend in a little too much. It’s hard to see the lines , although it might just be your lighting, which seems a little bit yellowish.
Well, you and Bill are making the same point. maybe I went a little too far, I wanted to portray a “tired” Panther, 5th SS was “bled white” by this time. I’m pretty close to the reference shots, the finish is pretty blotto on the real thing…although …B&W photos? Anyway, I’m happy with it. It really looks good to me on display. I’ll be taking this one and the “D” to AMPS in April. Thanks for the input
Your color choices are good, like you say what can you tell from a B/W picture… At any rate the paint jobs great and the softness is just another style of painting…
I thought that was the look you were going for…when i first looked at it, the panther appeared to me as very weary, and given the period it is just about right. It’s a fantastic build and finish. Thanks for sharing
Wow crockett, that panther really looks fantastic, especially with the interior. I like the faded look to the tank too, all the colors blend really well. There was only one thing that stood out to me, the tracks on the left side of the turret looked kind of ‘melted’. Were they supposed to look this way?
Hmm…the spare tracks ARE metal (Fruil model links) so I think you may be referring to the markings on the track spares?..If so, I went with the “hand painted” numerals (probably with whitewash) that was common to this unit at the time. They are “sloppy” on purpose …they are actually decals supplied with the kit.
Awesome, simply awesome. You ARE the man with the Zimm. I loved the pics of your other stuff. Im doin a porky turreted Tiger II. Anychance of a link to some more pics of it?
