I just picked this kit up at the lhs last night and it looks very nice to me. It looks like a really nice and well detailed model. There is even a little photetch fret of screens and such.
My question is this, what should I know about the kit? Anything I should look out for while building, anything easy to screw up if I’m not careful? Are there aftermarket items I should look into getting? I’d like to make this a really nice kit, but haven’t done much armor to speak of. Any particular colors I should use (I haven’t built German stuff before)? I can’t wait to paint the cammo on it. I want this to be a really nice model when it’s done.
Hy …i made that beast from revell ( i think that is same as dragon) and it is great kit… if you need some photos let me know on mail so I can send you …I made wehicle with number 332.
Just look at all that armour on the superstructure front! [:0]
In addition to advice you get here, go to missing lynx and look at the build reviews there. I know there’s at least one write-up there on the kit, that includes a step by step of what the builder did. He painted his three-tone, but I understand that the most common JT coloration may have just been dark yellow with foliage applied.
I have the Dragon Jagdtiger also and it looks really nice. I was pleasantly surprised by the photoetch that was included in the kit, very nice touch. I’ll be building it in the upcoming group build and will post as I go so if you haven’t started it by then I’ll try and catch the booby traps for you. [:)]
http://www.missing-lynx.com/articles/german/amjt/amjt.htm heres that review that Larry Dunn was talking about. i bought this kit on ebay in early february and am still waiting for it to arrive. ive been collecting sites for reference pics, if u want i can post them.
I built thebeast a few months back and I had no problems with it at all.Just make sure you leave the rear idler arm loose untill you get the tracks on so you can tighten the slack of the tracks
Here isa few pics of mine before any weathering, it is since been completed.I used fruil tracks instead of kit tracks…big improvement
One thing I would suggest is the purchase of an AM barrel for it , I think I used an eduard for mine , ( it was a while ago ) Aber also makes a very nice one as does Jordi Rubio .
I used MK tracks on this kit , ( the very first and last time BTW , I don’t care for them to be honest !) , but the kit supplied tracks with a little work are just fine .
If you want to go all out get a full PE set for it , ABER, eduard , etc however it is really a matter of taste here , once again not really necessary . Just look at any of Dwights work here for an example , he builds out of the box and his models are works of art ! [8D]
Well thanks guys! I appreciate all the info, and with such speed too. Wow. I haven’t decided if I’m going to use a photoetch set or not yet, maybe I’ll price them first. I think I may well use an aluminum barrel, depending on how the kit one looks. If my lhs has one in stock, I may just grab it there on impulse though.
Any reference links you guys have squirreled away would be fantastic. That stuff on Missing Lynx is great.
