I’m about 2/3 of the way through assembling my tracks into runs of 10 or so and was curious. Does anyone know how many links were on each side of the real 251C and / or how many make a realistic appearance on Dragon’s version?
When I built mine, I ended up with exactly 10 extra links and blocks out of the total set. I’ve no idea if this is the correct number vs. the historical, but it left just enough slack to recreate the sag common to all the HT tracks. Here’s an example:
I know I have not run across any in my ref books schiffer and sqdn, I think i saw in fsm that sqdn was relasing a new walk around book, On the 251, these are a great serries of books, with lots of detail shots, or barring that. You could use the same method i do, the looks good to me method. Most of the time it turns out prety good, well almost lol. To wbill76, Xquizit 251 pioneer vehicle. i just hope mine comes out looking as good. Cheers, and happy modeling.
Wbill, that halftrack is fantastic. Do you have any interior shots? I have this kit but haven’t started building it yet. Did you have any problems with the fit?
Only area you will have to be careful with is joining the lower hull pieces along with the upper hull. It’s a very precise fit amongst a lot of different pieces and just a little bit off in alignment on one will become readily apparent later on. For this reason, I built the hull in sections and then brought it all together in one step to minimize this (still ended up having to use a little bit of putty on one side). It’s a great kit, lots of detail and options.
Here’s a couple of shots of the interior (sorry to hijack the thread a bit imornery!) that I’d posted up with the finished build a while back.
Hey wbill, no need to apologize!!! I’m getting near the final stages of building and am just getting ready to assemble all of the hull parts!!!
Your model is excellent, I really like the way you used a lot of the engineering extras in the build!!! They really set it off and make it look great!!
And TankBuild, thanks for the site. I had checked it earlier and not found what I wanted (of course!!) but had failed to bookmark it before closing out of it. I appreciate the help!!!
And wBill, if you have any more tips, suggestions or hints, keep 'em coming because with basketball games this week and next I won’t get to do much modeling for a little while!!!
