I just wrapped this build up at the weekend for the Do 335 GB. Dragon 72nd aircraft kits have a bad rap when it comes to fit problems. This is my 3rd Dragon aircraft and its the first one I have had issues with. It was mainly in the wings. The tips had to be removed and extensions fitted, which did not fit well. And there are fillets on the inside leading each which were not a good fit as well as the top of the wing where it meets the fuselage.
Apasrt for those issues, it was a nice build, and I am defiantly prepared fro the next one. I added an Eduard PE set and painted with WEM enamels and decals out of the spares box. The scheme is all over RLM 77 with 74 and 75 on top and mottling. As a What If build, I was free to do something different, the scheme is not based on anything used by the Germans, and was just made up as I went along. But I really like it and plan on using it again. I used Tamiya XF-19 smoke for the exhausts and weathered with Flory washes.

USMC, I was very surprised at how big this is, especially for a single seater. I of course had seen pics, but it wasn’t until I had it with the figures that I fully appreciated the size. That one of the things I like about doing Dio’s.
Another gem, Bish. [Y] I’m beginning to think there’s no subject you can’t build. Plus, that extra touch with the bases you make really give that added perspective that goes a long way towards enhancing their appeal even to the most casual observer. Nice work man!
Agree with everyone great job. And like Mike I too like the base, well done along with the model. Camo is well done too, doesn’t look like a what-if camo scheme at all.
On a separate note, does this plane remind anybody else of a snakehead or is it just me?
Thanks guys. Mike, I am sure there are a few, and this is my normal comfort zone. I am now going from one end of WW2 to the other, my next aircraft is a Ju 87A.
Josiah, I think that’s a trick with these sorts of scheme, giving it a new scheme without making it look like a what if. I try to do something different but still keep within the realms of possibility. Not sure I see the snake head there, but I guess everyone has there own perspective.
Your Do 335 is absolutely fantastic Bish. You did a splendid job on it. Your What if camo is very well done and brilliantly executed. Very realistic where it adds to the build rather detract from it. And as usual, your base and figures really add that “wow” touch to the overall build. Thanks for sharing this with us.
MAg, I used White Ensign paint on this one, RLM 77 all over with RLM 74 and 75 for the camoe. I usually use Xtracolour enamels, but they don’t have a 77, so when for the WE paints.
Beautiful! I just finished the SAME kit 5 months ago. I love the aircraft, but failed to realize I bought it in 1:72 scale. So much detail, it was a bear…but it turned-out great!
Love the camo scheme on yours. I did the good old Splinter Camo on mine.

USAF, lucky for me, 72nd is my bread and butter. I think the only 48th kits are from Tamiya and Monogram. I do have all 5 of the Dragon 335 kits, so hopefully by the time I get to number 5, I will be able to deal with the issues in the kit. I have a bit of a thing for Luft 46 builds and prefer to do them as operational aircraft so try to come up with theoretical schemes but still keep it realistic.
