Dragon 1/72 M1A2 - First Look

I picked up one of these guys on Saturday. (Kit #7216)

I am very impressed. If anything, it’s even nicer and cleaner than the Elefant. Typical Dragon grey plastic. Beautiful tooling. Absolutely no flash that I can see and little, if any, mold parting lines.

Once again, the tracks are Vinyl and have fantastic detail on both sides. I’m in the process of weathering up the ones for the Elefant and can’t wait to see how well they glue together.

The barrel is molded as one piece and matches the quality of the rest of the kit. It even has the muzzel open to a depth of a 1/4 inch or so.

The parts are all finely detailed, but I have no idea how accurate they are. But they sure look good.

Dragon is really doing a fine job with all these 1/72 jobs. I can hardly wait for the Sturmtiger to hit the shelves.

I highly recommend this one for all you modern armor dudes (and dudettes). (Frosty ought to love this one!)

Uh Bill…weren’t you working on a Tiger I at one point? LOL Too bad, I don’t build 1/72 they seem to have some nice offerings.

Yep, and still am. But these 1/72 jobs are 3-4 hour builds!!

i am soooo jealous…the only dragon 1/72 i’ve seen so far is the built-up Tiger(not the wittman, the summer 44 one) and i bought it immediately, 'cause it looked so good in the box.
but…not only did i get totally jacked on the price by my LHS, but the main gun barrel is bent upwards & i think it’ll end up in a dio as a knocked out piece…[V]

it does look really good except 4 the barrel, tho’…
i can hardly wait 2 get my hands on 1 of their kits, but i’m gonna b really broke 4 the next couple of months, so i guess i’ll have 2 b patient & hope there will b some left by the time i get around 2 finding them.

I bought a sample of that a few days ago but havent received delivery yet. After reading your post Im glad I swiped it. Does it have some parts commonality with the Revell M-1? If not, is it better than the Revell offering? Thanks.

I haven’t seen the Revell, so I can’t say positively. But from the looks of the two Dragon’s I have, I think they are all new tools. I’ve always been impressed with R/G’s 1/72, and these, quality wise, are right there with them. If DML could just find a happy medium between the line drawn instructions and the photographed ones, they’d be sitting pretty. The one area I’ve noticed where the newer R/G stuff is a little better is that they have molded the engine gratings open. On the Elefant, DML molded the center set open but the two side grates were not.

I don’t think you’ll have any trouble. I think these guys are going to be around for a long time. Once the stocking levels catch up with the demand. Sorry to hear about the troubles with the prebuilt. Is it possible to ease the barrel back straight? I’ve been wanting to get a couple of those myself. They are really nice looking models. They did an awful nice job of painting them.
