dragon 1/35 ferdinand

this is dragons 1/35 ferdinand. the scheme is 1 company 653 schwere heeres panzerjager kursk 1943. the tracks are lion marc, they went together fairly easily although it took me over five hours to get them done.

not sure i did this justice.

joe

i like the paint scheme very much. the treads look sick man.

i almost started mine the other day,any trouble spots i might want to look out for? out of curiosity what part of washington state are you in? if you don’t want to post that info its all good(ya look like a guy from my club in your avitar)like i said its all good,we’ll c-ya on the forums.

Joe looks great, I think the tracks look a bit off to me, a little loose almost… the finish is fantastic!! Great weathering!

Hey Joe, glad to see your still doing armor brother. Is this the regular or Premium edition? Paint job looks very nice. Since I’ve built the same tracks before I can concur the guys responses on the tracks; it looks like a couple of links too many. The sag is kinda weird on the real one hits the 2,3,4,5 roadwheels. I never knew this company made tracks for the Ferdy. Were they decent to put togetherHope to see more Joe. [8D]

Joe, I really like your Ferdinand! Something about the plain dunkelgelb paint scheme on this beast that is somewhat eye-catching! My only bone to pic is the overly loose tracks, especially on the left side. Other than that, the painting & weathering are sweeet! Good job![tup]

I’m really starting to like the Ferdinand/Elephants!!

Get one, you won’t regret it. [:D]

thanks for looking in all. thanks for the kind words.

the tracks are sagging way too much. after the five hours to put two runs together i dryfit to make sure how much i had and saw i was three or four links short. i added that amount and then dryfit again. when i did i saw i had gotten a “bad read” on the length of the runs. i tried to remove some from each and ended up destroying some. after trying unsuccessfully to make it right this was the end result. the tracks are pretty simple to put together but extremely difficult to remove without destroying the one to be removed and three or four more in the run.

armornut if i remember correctly you are in spokane. i am about seventy miles north of you. i am in colville. as far as recognizing me that is entirely possible. i worked at rosauers five mile for several years.

james would you believe the only weathering was a black pin wash to bring out the bolts and panels a bit.

eric i believe this is the regular version. nothing special in the box.

again many thanks for all the kind words. i guess not horrible from an airhead.

joe

Hey fightnJoe, why not just scrap the tracks you’ve got on here and assemble the kit tracks? You’d still be able to assemble them in situ with a little work and patience! Just curious-why’d you deep-six the kit tracks? They’re pretty good if I recall from my build.

The model is nicely done, but unfortunately, the tracks really do detract from the overall presentation–I’d think about re-doing the tracks in a few weeks when your patience is back to pre-build levels!

Great build Joe, looks clean and tidy. I bet Mr ‘M’ would like it. His sort of weathering. (Surprisingly quiet of late)

…Guy

Joe,

Good to see you again! Ferdinand looks great! I think last armor you did was the Bradley few months ago and I must say that this looks even better than your last armor kit. You made it sound you like it was a simple build and yet came out really nice!

we are closer than ya think,i actually live in deer park, fire me an e-mail off the forums to let me know if your interested in the model club in spokane,if you don’t here from me within a couple of days put out a post and i’ll get back to you.back on topic of yer ferdi, that would make an excellent diorama piece,a couple of guys scratching thier heads saying how’d that happen.

Hey Joe,

Long time nosee…You need to get away from those P-40’s for a while and build more Armor!

Nice work on the Ferdy…

regards,

Steve

Hey, awesome work Joe. You’ve come a long way from the first armour kit you posted. Man, how long’s it been since I’ve seen you post in this forum [:P]

again many thanks for the kind words. this build was a wind down build from the fort conversion completed a bit over a month ago.

karl i didnt know anything about the kit when i got it and wanted to see what am tracks were like. i didnt know anything about the kit tracks. this may end up in a dio, i am not sure yet. if it does i will be using the sagging tracks as a story line i think.

guy thanks. not sure i make the connection with “mr m” though.

m1 thanks. this was a simple build. i needed to unwind a bit after all the stress i had put on myself with the conversion build.

armornut i was very interested in the spokane model club. it drove me and another to start a club up here. however i am interested in visiting your club.

steve you can take the person out of a hawk but you cant take the hawk out of a person. i have a real obsession with p-40’s, same with b-17’s. armor makes a nice change of pace but my heart remains in the air.

zokissima it had been a while. but then again i dont really do many armor builds compared to a/c. i do have a few planned in the near future. one will be an unusual and, to me, very interesting one that i have found but one picture of.

again thankyou for the kind words.
