New here, and returning to real physical modelling after maybe 20 years… I used to be quite a serious painter so I hope to set myself some pretty high standards. That said I’m starting fairly slow with a mostly vanilla build or two. Community here seems to be of an amazing standard, I hope to learn much!
Just completed the (remarkable to me compared to the kits I saw back in the day) dragon 1/35 Bison 1 smart kit. Yet to come will be a crew and street scene base for it which I am just starting to work on. Comments and suggestions/tips very very welcome indeed.
Paint is tamiya, weathering tamiya pigments plus a lot of bits of ink and various washes etc. Crosses are done with airbrush stencils. The only scratchbuilt parts are the track holder on the front glacis and some additional rivet strips in front of the armour plating.
I know about this vehicle but have never really seen it in great detail. Wow it literally is a 150mm howitzer sitting on top of a Pz I hull. The grey is a bit on the pale side for me but it is a very nice subtle weathering on the vehicle. Very nicely done.
Ill try to take some, awkward angles to get in close!, the compartment is thus far mostly plain (will add a few bits along with the crew I hope), though I did put a lot of work into the drivers area (which you cant see really). There are a number of in progress shots on my flickr stream if you click through the pictures.
To be honest, the pics probably look paler than the model does… the underlying grey is tamiya german grey which is really dark and blue! lots of dust and some fading over the top though. The pigments especially seem very sensitive to lighting, in a dull room it looks very dark grey, in sunlight it all goes ‘ping’
Wow that is Tamiya German grey? But yeah I know what you mean with the lighting, I’ve had similar issues with photos appearing much lighter than they actually are.
I haven’t seen one of these built in the forums. Looks like you did a nice job. Was this your first effort with indie-tracks? Well done.
I can’t really think of anything, but was wondering if the two-tone grey and brown camo would apply to this vehicle. I was really naive myself on that early war camo.

Eric, ye the two tone scheme would apply to this. I believe Dragon have released one that shows it on the box, but i thnik they released an earlier one in just plan grey. I have only just become aware of that scheme myself, i am ashamed to say.
The dragon box/instructions show 5 schemes including that grey and brown one. I was going to overlay the paintjob with a winter whitewash but I cant bring myself to risk destroying it all!
This is actually my second model, I finished a long ago bought 1/35 tauro a&v just before starting this one, which was a crazy model, quite badly made and with a complex rubber track link/metal pin track arrangement which was about the hardest thing I have ever put together. I should post that in another thread.
I know what your talking about with the camera my model room is lit very well but my camera always wants to flash and that just washes everything out… if i turn the flash off then it looks extremely dark… I’m going to invest in some more lighting that i can put behind and in front of me… maybe you can fiddle around with your lighting situation too to make it come out the way you like it…
Also the two tone brown and grey i had heard about it before but in just the past week or so I’m sold that most Panzers going into Poland and France had that marking
